Hi freinds,
Here’s a snippet: "Two percent licorice topical gel was more effective than 1%
in reducing the scores for erythema, oedema and itching over two weeks (p<0.05).
The results showed that licorice extract could be considered as an effective
agent for treatment of atopic dermatitis."
So I concocted a simple solution with 2% licorice, 30% propylene glycol, and 2%
glycerin, in a base of distilled water. I’ve applied it to my face daily in the
evening for the last twenty-two days. It seems to work suprisingly well. The
first week of January, my seb derm flared up, especially my forhead. Now,
thankfully, it has calmed down and is almost cleared. I’m going to continue with
daily applications for another seven days, then I’ll drop down to two or three
applications per week to see how it goes.

I went out yesterday and bought Apple Cider Vinegar with Mother
because so many people swear by it for SD. I found it at my local
Wegman’s in the "natural products" isle for only $3.50! Anyway, I
opened it up and it smelled sort of like regular vinegar, but there
was something else… I mixed it 50/50 with some water and applied
it to the red patches on my face. It stung ever so slightly but went
away in a few seconds. THEN the smell hit me. OH MY GOD, it was the
worst foulest smell I’ve ever experienced in my life!! Probably due
to the enzymes or something. When I was little my dad would take his
shoes off after a long day at work, and the entire house smelled
like raunchy stinky feet. Well, I had stinky feet juice on my face.
That’s the only way I can describe it. I tried really hard to leave
it on, but I was gagging the whole time. After 15 mins. I had to
take it off, and would you know, the smell wouldn’t go away! It must
have gotten into my pores or something. So I used pretty smelling

The redness is going away, but I’m not sure what remedy is working. I
actually started to notice it was less red the day after I got
my "monthly friend". I think for me the reason it was such a bad flare-
up was PMS-related. But I’ve been putting lots of stuff on it too. I
tried Metrocream and Mycolog II, which are both prescription.
Metrocream stung when applied and I don’t know if it worked. The
Mycolog feels REALLY good on it. It’s a very thick, smooth cream that
smells good and doesn’t sting. I think that helped to reduce some of
the redness.
I also went out yesterday and bought "Apple Cider Vinegar with
Mother", which I’ll report in another post (don’t want my posts to be
too long).

I’ve found a little tip over the last few days for acv users.
If applying it at night before bed - the next morning in the shower I
wont do anything at all to my face and hair (so soap, not even touching
them). Just rinse under the water and wash body as normal. This helps
the skin recover quicker and get through the redness stage which I (and
some others) experience.
I hope this is useful for someone

Hi,
I’ve had SD now for about 3 years and was diagnosed it by my doctor
2 years ago. He then prescribed me steroid hydrocortisone cream and
a moisturiser that I used for around 3 months until reading of the
dangerous side effects at which point I stopped.
Since then I have had slight success with ACVM However I’ve now got
to the stage where I need I want to better control my SD and am
therefore going to look to my dermatologist for suggestions.
I’ve been reading about SD on the internet and in books now for
around 2 years and frankly I’ve been swamped with information from
all angles that is basically inconclusive.

Hey, look at the Contact Eczema (or Dermatitis, I forget) on Wikipedia. But
if you ask your derm he will confirm it, since neomycin is known to be a
bad guy in eczema and they even include it in testing for allergies and
sensitivities when people with skin problems show up. Better safe than
sorry I say…
Or you can just google neomycin and dermatitis.

I took a round of Doxycycoline for a bad Rosacea flare for the first time. For
some reason
it cleared up my SD instead. Still got Rosacea, but my SD has vanished. I know
it will be
back some day, but what an unexpected result. Going to enjoy it while I can.

To the person who posted on the wonders of low dose steroids: please
document. I have looked into the mostly very bad side effects of steroids,
and from what I gather, even low doses that were previously touted as safe
arent. One person I know had to have a cataract operation from steroid use
for only two weeks, her pulmonologist told her it was very low dose, and
nevertheless…
The link you provide is to an AIDS journal of people experimenting with
various things (like us here). Just because they post about it does not
mean it works, or will be harmless.
Where are the real studies?

I know that many of you must control your carbs or cannot eat sugar
because it exacerbates the seb derm. I have an issue though where,
after I eat sugar, I get a very bad hangover. My sinuses hurt, I have
a headache, I feel very irritable. Does anyone else have this problem?
Thanks!
David
