Doxy Cleared My SD

Monday, May 14th, 2007

I took a round of Doxycycoline for a bad Rosacea flare for the first time. For
some reason
it cleared up my SD instead. Still got Rosacea, but my SD has vanished. I know
it will be
back some day, but what an unexpected result. Going to enjoy it while I can.

low dose steroids

Saturday, May 12th, 2007

To the person who posted on the wonders of low dose steroids: please
document. I have looked into the mostly very bad side effects of steroids,
and from what I gather, even low doses that were previously touted as safe
arent. One person I know had to have a cataract operation from steroid use
for only two weeks, her pulmonologist told her it was very low dose, and
nevertheless…

The link you provide is to an AIDS journal of people experimenting with
various things (like us here). Just because they post about it does not
mean it works, or will be harmless.
Where are the real studies?

Sugar

Saturday, May 12th, 2007

I know that many of you must control your carbs or cannot eat sugar
because it exacerbates the seb derm. I have an issue though where,
after I eat sugar, I get a very bad hangover. My sinuses hurt, I have
a headache, I feel very irritable. Does anyone else have this problem?

Thanks!

new medication

Hey Mike, whatever you do, do not use neomycin. It is one of the big causes
of eczema, and can mess you up further. There are other similar products
that do not contain it.

Low dose hydrocortisone tablets - effective therapy

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

There is accumulated evidence that low dose oral therapy with
hydrocortisone(HC) tablets is helpful in seb derm. Don’t automatically
discount this out of fear ! There is some evidence that sebderm is
associated with low CD4+ t-cell counts, and that is why Sebderm is so
prevalent in HIV. Sebderm improves as CD4+ cells increase. Low dose HC
will over time increase these cell counts and improve immunity. Low
dose means 20mg-35mg total HC per day divided over 4 doses from 7-8am
in the morning until 4-6pm in the evening. ie 5mg-(approx)7.5mg 4x per
day. This dose is safe to use indefinitely, in fact, if your immunity
is low as in SD then this is better than no treatment. Do some
research if you are unsure. Give it a try. It is cheap and it may
change your life. You can get HC online without prescription , search
for "West-Ward hydrocortisone tablets".

greetings fellow seb derms

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

Hello all,
First off, let me just say what a great resource this group is.
Having just joined, I’ve been reading many of the comments and there’s
a ton of good information about what works for people and what
doesn’t. I’m 24 and have had seborrheic dermatitis (I hate spelling
that all out) for about 8 years. It went from my scalp, to my ears,
and (the worst) to my face- all around my eyebrows, nose and mouth
area. About 3 months ago, I started to learn about the dangers of
long-term use of hydrocortisone creams (my primary weapon for years)
and have been searching for more natural alternatives. I’ve never had
what I would consider very oily skin, and I never had to deal with
major acne during my teenage years. Just the seb derm, which seemed
to move from my scalp to my face- sometimes I’d have flare-ups in one
while the other was normal for months. It didn’t seem to make sense.
I would definitely agree that weather seems to play a role, as my

One more question

Monday, May 7th, 2007

Sorry just one more question. Has anyone tried the new
2% P. Zinc Head and Shoulders. I saw an ad for it the other
day. What is unique about my situation at least it seems to me is,
that I dont really get too much dandruff
any more, or redness on my scalp like I used to years ago, now it
is just my face, and I mean almost the whole thing. It sucks, as most
of you know, I am sick of the questions about "whats wrong with my
face". Ok sorry, I am new to the group and guess I just have to get
everything out there. Thanks for listening.

This might be a dumb question but…

Monday, May 7th, 2007

I see a lot of posts about having roseacea and SD, now
how do you tell the diffrence. I think I might be in that situation
being that sometimes my skin is just a pinkish color and slightly
inflammed with no dryness. Then sometimes it is red, dry, itchy and
kind of burns. I dont have to much problems with dryness, It’s the
damn redness. Any suggestions on controlling the redness.

Reccomendation: When I do get dry skin I find jojoba oil to be very
effective, it mimicks our skins natural oil and is one of the few
things that doesnt upset my skin.

Cured… or at least remission

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Hi Everyone,

I’ve not posted here in a very long time but thought I’d share my good
news and how I got there. I came down with SD about a year and a 1/2
ago. For about a year, I flaked and crusted everyday and had hair
loss. I’m happy to say it’s been about 4 months and I’ve not had a
single flake! My hair is growing back too.

The key to my healing has been diet and nutrition. I’ve been
diagnosed (first self diagnosed and then confirmed with tests) with
Celiac’s disease–an allergy to gluten. Celiac’s destroys the small
intestine which is responsible for absorption of vitamins and minerals
from food and other sources. I eliminated gluten (which in found in
everything from grains to vinegar, soy sauce, salad dressing, most
processed foods) switched to a mostly whole food diet, began taking a

Low dose hydrocortisone tablets - safe and effective therapy

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

For years hydrocortisone and steroids in general have been vilified
and avoided. It has recently been rediscovered that low dose
hydrocortisone boosts immunity and may effectively and safely
controlor reduce sebderm for as long as it is taken. Low dose means
5mg-7.5mg 4x per day from 7-8am and the last dose at 5-6pm. Maximum
total dose per day is about 35mg. At these doses you can safely take
hydrocortisone for decades. Prednisone/prednisolone 5mg-7.5mg once per
day can also be used, but hydrocortisone is probably a bit safer due
to shorter action.

Too much hydrocortisone is dangerous. Too little hydrocortisone is
also dangerous, as is zinc, iron, selenium etc. As with most things in
health balance is the key. Balanced replacement hydrocortisone is
worth a try for optimum immune performance.
