licorice

Michael, can you tell how the recipe works? What kind of licorice do you
use? How much of each? Do you heat it while mixing? Etc — Many thanks!

    Hi Vera,

It’s a very simple solution to mix. I’ll start with a recipe for 50 ml which is
    enough for about 100 days.

    ********************************************************************************\
    **
2% licorice in solution of distilled water, 5% glycerin, 30% propylene glycol

    Ingredients list:

1 gram licorice extract powder (standardized to 24% glycyrrhizic acid)

    32.5 ml distilled water

    15 ml propylene glycol

    2.5 ml glycerin
    ********************************************************************************\
    **

To measure the ingredients, you can try the following in you’re in the USA.

1 gram of licorice extract is approx. 1 teaspoon

32.5 ml distilled water is approx. 2 tablespoons

15 ml propylene glycol is approx. 1 tablespoon

2.5 ml glycerin is approx. 1/2 teaspoon.

Combine the liquids in a small vial, add licorice and shake well. Using a
medicine dropper is handy and will measure out 1 ml which is plenty for a single
application. In fact, I find that about 1/2 ml is all I need to treat my face.

    Locating the Ingredients:

Glycerin is found over the counter in the USA at most pharmacies and at Walmart.
    It’s about $3.00 for 4 oz (120 ml).

Propylene glycol might be found in some pharmacies in the USA, though you might
need to ask the pharmacist. I bought mine online. Here are a few possible
sources (I have no affiliation with these firms):

    www.personalformulator.com 8 oz (240 ml) $1.70
    www.snowdriftfarm.com
    www.medichest.com

Licorice extract can probably be found at local or online health food and
nutrition stores. I bought 100 grams of extract powder for $6.00 at
www.beyond-a-century.com, but I’m sure there are plenty of other sources online.

Medicine droppers (1 ml) are found in pharmacies.

Before applying the solution to your face, I would recommend applying it to your
inner arm for a few days to see how your skin reacts.

    Regards,

    Michael
