greetings fellow seb derms

Hello all,
First off, let me just say what a great resource this group is.
Having just joined, I’ve been reading many of the comments and there’s
a ton of good information about what works for people and what
doesn’t. I’m 24 and have had seborrheic dermatitis (I hate spelling
that all out) for about 8 years. It went from my scalp, to my ears,
and (the worst) to my face- all around my eyebrows, nose and mouth
area. About 3 months ago, I started to learn about the dangers of
long-term use of hydrocortisone creams (my primary weapon for years)
and have been searching for more natural alternatives. I’ve never had
what I would consider very oily skin, and I never had to deal with
major acne during my teenage years. Just the seb derm, which seemed
to move from my scalp to my face- sometimes I’d have flare-ups in one
while the other was normal for months. It didn’t seem to make sense.
I would definitely agree that weather seems to play a role, as my

flare-ups are worse during the cold, dry Ohio winters. I bought a
cold air humidifier for my bedroom and that seems to have helped a
little. I’ve also stopped the hydrocortizone treatment on my face and
have been trying the coconut oil method for about 3 days. It helps a
ton with the tightness and drying, but I think it’s too early to tell
if it will help my seb derm. I’m also gonna try to keep a skin
journal and see if that reveals anything. I’m so glad I found this
group- just reading all of your comments is comforting because I don’t
feel so alone. Together we are stronger than this condition.
Sincerely,
Elliott
