Some Improvemnt in my SD

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

I am writing for the first time to this forum because I finally have
some results to report to you. I’ve been reading all of your
suggestions, trying a few of them, and thinking about what makes
sense for my situation. I have SD only in the winter, usually from
December to March, but it can start sooner and go till April or May.
During the summer my skin is completely normal, so I know my diet
has nothing to do with the SD.

I have had SD for about 5 years. I have it in all the usual places
on my face. I do not have it on my scalp. When I have a flair-up
it can be quite severe. My skin looks almost like a bad burn.

My dermatologist has me taking 20 mgs. of doxycyclene twice a day
(for the inflammation) and I use metrogel 1% cream twice a day. I
wash once a day with Nizarol shampoo. I leave it on the whole time

Sunlights for SD?

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Hi Folks–

i have read and my dermatologist confirmed that UV light helps control
SD. i know in the summer my SD is virtually non-existent the more i
am outside. does anyone use tanning lamps or sunlights to treat their
SD? mine is on my face, so i wanted to see if anyone has any
experience in this before i go off experimenting.

look forward to hearing other people’s stories.

thanks and take care…larry

metronidazole, ASF

This is just another analog of ketoconazole (Nizoral). Notice that they do
NOT compare it to ketoconazole, but always only to placebo. Why? Because
they want a cut of the market, and if it performed only as well as Nizoral
(or gasp, a bit less well), then why bother?

Bah, humbug.

The other drug, ASF whatever, sounds interesting, but it could turn into
another debacle like Elidel/Protopic… if you just depress the skins
immune defenses, you may end up paying the price down the line, in skin
cancer, rosacea, and other problems. We need research that focuses on the
cause! (Fat chance…)
