ITCHY FACE, REDNESS SEB DERM?

Hello, I am a 31yo male, non smoker, live a healthy lifestyle but
have just been diagnosed with Seb Derm. My symptoms include:

1.VERY itchy face.

2.Oily skin, particuarly around my nose and chin.

3.redness on face, arounf nose, cheeks and chin.

4.scaly skin behind ears and inside ear.

I have used the following medications so far with no relief:

—- elocon
—–hydrozole

—–clonea
—–medicated anibacterial honey ointment.

My main issue with this condition is the itching on the face. Why
does this happen and how do i get relief? I sometimes take an anti-
histamine bu that is only a band aid solution. I have found that the
itching has got worse over the last 5 months as I have had this
condition for about 9-12 months. I can put up with the redness as I
usually have a reddish complexion due to being fair skinned. My
dermatologist said that this condition is more prone in fair skinned
people and stess(isn’t everything caused by stress!?.

I use Cetaphil in the shower as this does not clog pores. I too find
that my face appears to be inflammed after taking a shower and try
not to use hot water, but this is near impossible in winter!

Does anybody know if there is anything that can be done to stop the
over active seb glands from producing too much sebum?

Mike.

didnt the doctor give you anything ?

my doctor prescibed Ketoconazole combines with equal
amount of Desonide ( a mild steroid)

although its best not to keep using the steroid for a
    long period of time.
that worked for me.got rid of itching and flakes.

It’s a bit ironic, Mike. The onset of my condition started in full
about 9 months ago, with symptoms similarly indentical to yours. I
wish I had an answer to provide you. I’ve been to a number of Derms
and tried many different products, which have provided little to no
success. In fact, sadly, the condition has worsened.

something I have used on my face is "Clean and Clear"
    - it is made by J&J and you can usually find it and
most places like Walmart - it comes in a light blue
plastic box and they look like towelettes. I have
used them and they worked well especially with the
ears. Not sure it gets rid of the itching but you do
need to wash your face and the cetaphil is not going
    to do it (personal experience).

Chris, i know mate. My condition seems to have worsened as well. It is
amazing with the technology and the tests medical people do that there
is no cure if not no relief! This is a very frustrating condition.
Does the itching keep you awake at night?

    Mike.

  5. Boyd Nichols Says:

I can certainly attest to the itchy face, Mike. That was actually the
first symptom I noticed, before any of the redness and flakiness even
started appearing. The itching would be so bad it would literally wake
    me up during sleep.

  6. Neva Marjory Says:

Thats where we are different. I noticed the redness and blotchy skin
first, themn the itch on the face came from nowhere! It has woken me
up too and can leave you cranky the next day. It feels as though
something is crawling on your face. Has the doctor given you anything
    to get you to sleep?

    Mike.

  7. Boyd Nichols Says:

I wasn’t given medicine to specifically help me with sleep, but I was
given prescriptions to "supposedly" help with the itch. Needless to
    say, they didn’t much work.

I am looking into a drug that supposedly stops the seb glands from
being over active. The down side to the drug is the side effects. I
believe it causes depression, which is something I DO NOT NEED!

Have you heard of this drug?

  9. Boyd Nichols Says:

I haven’t heard of this type of drug, Mike. When I save up some money
I want to see my family doctor. I’d like to see if he can prescribe me
something to help with anxiety. I will certainly ask about products
which might help slow down over producing glands.

  10. Lina Hettie Says:

Chris, ask him about a drug called endep. I was on this for anxiety
awhile ago which helped a lot. It is a drug for anxiety and migraine
headaches. The only side effect i got was a dry mouth.
