Frustration
The following is a post I came across in another SD group from a
fellow sufferer. I think it illustrates why SD is so frustrating. The
individual is following a healthy diet and is living nearly stress
free…and STILL has the condition!
"What drives me nuts is the fact that my stress level in the last
year is almost zero, I have a very healthy life, active in sports,
good sleep, watching my diet, trying to help my immune system and
even so my affected areas are getting bigger…
I’m drugs free in the last 10 years, using homeopathic and natural
products only (vitamins as well)."

Chris,
There is no cure for SD. Besides stress, being frustrated about
someone or something can trigger a flareup. Even external irritants
like soap — can trigger flareups. Also check out the following link.

Protopic 2-3 times a week max is the only thing that has worked for me for
the past several years. I also occasionally use the new ketoconazole
ointment, Xolegel, which is helpful in combination with the Protopic, but
not as effective on its own, and it is not really user freindly as it is
very sticky, tacky type of ointement that once dries leaves a residue on the
skin. Very similar to Ovace gel in that respect, and probably as effective
as Ovace.
But even just Protopic on its own is still my number 1 weapon.

Interesting… I’ve had the exact symptoms Mike described, and I’m a
big proponent of ZNP bar. Maybe there is a link!
I haven’t had any problems lately… but I’ve only been using the ZNP
bar once a week or so. I use Cetaphyl bar cleanser, which works well
for me without any problems, and a sunscreen lotion.
I wonder what sunscreen you’re using also. The last time I had this
problem it was Summer… when I switched sunscreens the condition
improved.
In defense of ZNP bar, I have found it to be much more gentle than
pyrithone zinc shampoo. But my view on all medical matters is to be
minimalist - do the absolute minimum, the weakest treatment possible
as seldom as possible. Because the stronger you get, and the more
frequent you do it, the more side effects you’ll have.
I think Greg’s advice is good… give the ZNP bar a break and see
what happens. If things improve ZNP bar may still be a valuable
weapon in your arsenal, but maybe not an every day thing.
Good luck!
