Treatments

After seeing a different Dermatologist today he put me on the routine
of taking Doxycycline orally 2 times a day and using Ketaconozal
shampoo once daily on my face and scalp. Has anyone been prescribed
either of these medicines?

Now that sounds like a "Chemical Ali" cocktail.
I used to use a ketaconozal shampoo and cream worked good for me about 3
months then returned stubborn as ever

I used topical ketoconazole and my skin was perfect for a couple of
months, then it stopped working completely and made my skin sting and
    burn. Weird.

It sounds like you might have pityrosporum folliculitis? Red dots?
That would explain the doxycycline…I’ve read that it goes hand in
    hand w/sebderm (though I don’t have it). I believe it’s curable,
though, so the antibiotic should make it go away, then you’ll just be
left w/the charm of sebderm :()

    Chris,

Was there any bacterial infection from scratching? That too would
explain that a doctor would prescribe an antibiotic like doxycycline.

I’m not sure exactly why the doxycycline was prescribed. I haven’t
encountered any bacterial infections…I try to be as careful as
possible when scratching an itch. In any case, my condition hasn’t
improved. Neither with the doxy nor with the ketoconozole. I think
I’ve been given just about every medication to treat SD. I might as
well be a test subject for the Mayo Clinic!

I spent a lot of time reading about SD today, since I’m trying to
figure out what to do myself. I seem to have SD accompanied by
    pityrosporum folliculitis (red dot zits).

Two things seem like good options to me: an oral antifungal (like
itraconazole or other -conazoles) with some kind of maintenance
afterwards, or the apple vinegar cider route. I think I’ll try the
latter, since it seems like a better long term option if it works.

    Good luck!
