Hi Daughter has SD
Hi, this is my first post here, my daughter showed me her scalp today
and she has SD - I know because I have suffered for over 20 years with
it myself. I use Ketoconazole shampoo and it works well; but on
research on the net it says there is no data on it’s use on under 12’s
and so should only be used under doctors supervision.
The problem is that we live in spain and communicating with doctors
can be very tricky, and 9 times out of 10 they are just not interested
because we are not spanish!
Has anyone used this safely on their children? She only has a few bad
patches and i feel sure it would help her very quickly. It is
definately SD as it is on her hairline as well as on the top of her
scalp.
Thanks in advance

Hey Dawn!
I’ve had great success with Head & Shoulders Intensive Treatment for
both my dandruff and flakes/patches. This particular product is not
available up here in Sweden and not the rest of Europe either I
suspect, so I order on the net a few bottles from time to time. Can’t
tell you if it’s suitable for kids, but I’d give it a shot!
Good luck!

hi there, i too suffered from SD, all my life i had acne on the scalp…but
it wasn’t too noticeable or brothering a few pimples here and their. It
really got worse when i hit 25, my hair started smelling, scalp was very
painful and dranduff(greasy) all over the scalp. I also tried steroid
tropical recommended by the dermotologist, and i asked him should i change
my eating habits, lifestyle….he said no it won’t help. So i tried the
presciption he recommended it was steriod mix with peanut oil that i have to
keep on my scalp overnight, it works for some but it didnt’ work for me.
Then a few years later came to this forum..and tried apple cider
vingar…that helped with the irritation..but the dandruff was still there,
i also tried to go on the diet recommended by this forum, but i lost about
10pounds and since i’m slim guy it really was draining on my body. My mom
recommended me to go to naturopathic physician. The naturopatic recommended
me to take blood test that test for food allergy. The blood is send off to
USBioTel laboratory where it is tested, the end result will be a list of
food that your allergic from birth and the one you have developed over the
years. I found out that i was allergic from all diary product, certain
vegetables, and certain nuts. This is why when some people who go on healthy
diet still have SD. When i went on the diet recommended in this forum i was
eating nuts and vegetables that i was allergic too. You need to find out
what food to avoid and this is only done if you take a blood test. The
naturapatic also noticed that i’ve overgrowth of yeast in my body…she
referred it to as candidas. For this she provided supplements to counteract
the yeast…this process should takes 9month for the yeast to come out of
the system. Since my blood type was ‘0′ she put me on a well balance meal
with the right amount of protein and carb…certain people need to eat meat
and i was one of them so she recommended eating chicken, turkey and fish
everday. For the scalp she recommend using puting tree oil after shampoo.
I’ve been following this plan for the last 2month and my scalp for the first
time has no acne and the dranduff is slowly disappearing.
lol…i’m only writing this long for your daugther she is young and its
better to treat her now.
I don’t know if the Ketoconazole shampoo will help your daugther this is
your choice you can see how she acts to it.
I do suggest for her to see naturopathic and take blood test to see what
your allergic too..the only drawback to this is the cost of the test its a
few hundred dollars. The cost of naturopathic was reasonable…$30 for 1
hour.
The apple cider vingar once again try it out and see what happens everybody
is different.
Try out and see how the tree oil works….i apply it all over my
scalp…just don’t get it in her eyes.
Best of luck

Thanks very much! I have booker her a doc appt to see what they say on Wed
morn, but Kate has been really good and not scratched the patch (you know,
bleeding and scabby) so it is healing well. She has more will power than
me!! Depending on what the doc says i will try the tee tree oil and see if
it has any effect. She also has a patch just below her hairline on her face
- this is what alerted me!
I think this is a bit hereditary - my mother had very bad dandruff all her
life, and it took 20 years for me to get diagnosed with SD. It got so bad at
that point, I was just so relieved to get a proper diagnosis and treatment
that worked!
Mine is flaring too at this point as I have not used the Ketoconazole on me
for 2 years because I was pregnant most of the time! I am just starting to
get back on the wagon before it gets too bad. At the moment it is not on my
face, but often my eyebrows and nose suffer. And of course just thinking
about it makes it feel itchy!!
Thanks for your help!

its not because you are "not Spanish" its because no matter where you are
Dermatologist really dont give a damn about your condition. They are
puppets not doctors where medical insurance companies pull the strings and
tell them exactly what to do. They dont ask questions, do no research only
perscribe some medicine that doesnt work. I have quit seeing a
dermatologists only because I fear the next visit will probably end up with
some swearing and unneccessary aggrevation. I see a kinseologist know wh
belives in research and teaching.

I got an appt to see our gp (in spain they have separate peds docs as
standard) and she has confirmed SD and that it is fine for her to use the
Ketoconazole shampoo - apparently over 6 years old is fine. She only has 2
small patches and I hope these will clear quickly. Oh and for your info the
docs in Spain DO operate on social security, not medical insurance.
Thanks for input

Thanks very much! I will try her with the Ketoconazole, as I have found my
whole life that a Dandruff shampoo will work great for one bottle, and then
I buy the second and half way through it stops working!! The Ketoconazole
only needs to be used once a fortnight to keep it all under control. If she
doesn’t suit the ketoconazole then hopefully I might be able to get some of
the head and shoulders (none of them have ever worked on me, but willing to
try anything!)
Thanks again

Keep in mind that in most cases, once you control the
SD on the head you control the SD on the face. I’ve
been using a shampoo called Node DS from bio derma
from four years now each three or four days and its
been excellent so far. I still get thick flakes if i
pass more than twenty days without application
hope this helps
