Inflammation without pain?

Friday, January 13th, 2006

Is it possible for your skin to be inflammed but NOT experience any
pain/itchiness/heat, etc?

I’m only asking because whereas I have the characterstic facial
redness that accompanies sebderm, I don’t experience any sort of
itchiness (flaking I do have though). Additionally, I have from time
to time thought that I could have rosacea but I don’t have the
symptomatic acne pustules nor is my skin painful or hot to the
touch…the redness is just sort of there, not subsiding but not
escalating in intensity either.

One derm I saw said that some people just have naturally red faces…I
know what she was talking: with those people the redness is much more
evenly diffused across their face and doesn’t really look unnatural.
However my redness is localized to my T-zone so I don’t think what she

Benzoyl Peroxide

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006

Has anyone tried using benzoyl peroxide to tackle seb derm symptoms?
I’ve been using an acvm solution to treat what I have going on right
now, and while it’s pretty good, I was thinking of experimenting with
benzoyl peroxide.

Most BP (whether in the form of gels, lotions, etc) in stores is 2.5
to 10%, which may be too much for seb derm-afflicted skin. However,
scientific supply houses like vwr.com or fishersci.com sell BP 75% (in
water) for roughly $10. Afterwards, you can just dilute it to
whatever concentration you want (I’m going to start with a 0.5%
diluted with autoclaved water and spray it on, a la my acvm solution).

As a side note, does anyone have experience with using BP just for
acne? I have some stubborn acne (manifesting itself as tiny little
bumps) that I’d really like to hit with benzoyl peroxide.

Frustrated!

Monday, January 9th, 2006

I am a 28-year-old female…I have had sebderm since I was 13 or 14
years old. I didn’t know what the redness on my nose, cheeks and
chin
was until I recently wised up and finally went to my doctor and got a
diagnosis. Guess I figured out the redness was never going to
just "go away" without some help. Anyway…My story is pretty short
and simple:

My primary care physician prescribed Nizoral cream…Didn’t do a
thing
for me.

The first dermatologist I saw prescribed Rosac with sunscreens.
Didn’t do a thing either. She strongly suggested laser treatments at
$350 a pop, and I would need 2-3 initial treatments, if the Rosac did

Hi, I’m new here. I really would like to know that does milk trigger or
worsen seb derm?

Have been diagnosed with rosacea but think I have SD. Worst symptom
is skin within eye socket when I have a flare. Red,burning then scaly
and then clear til the next time. Very interested to know what others
symptoms are. Waiting to see dermatologist - probably August!

preventable

Hello Group,

I like to mail in with my answer for this condition once in a while.
Usually it is dismissed but hopefully some people will see this post
and try it. It’s salcura you can look it up on the internet and you
can buy it on ebay. The few who have tried it have criticised it for
the wrong reasons. One said it only stops flaking, hello if it stops
the flaking then a process of healing is occuring. It has also just
been described as a moisturiser, totally wrong it is a anti-fungal
mixture of oils in a osmotic brine soluction which penetrates the
skin. Thirdly If you purchase please spray onto hands and rub onto
face rather than spray on face as much just evaporates. The other
thing stick with it as it has been a process of a few weeks before i
saw my skin really start to heal and yes it may get a bit red at
first but this is the stuff working. All i can say is try it what

Medications in the UK?Please Read ASAP

Wednesday, January 4th, 2006

Hey folks,

I’m from Canada and am aware that not all the medications that are
discussed on this forum are available in Canada. My folks are going to
England in two days and asked if there are any medications they can
pick up for me. So my question for all those people who have SD and
live in the UK is are there specific creams or ointments that you
found useful and if so can you please list them. Perhaps my folks can
pick them up. Even any face wash types to get rid of oily skin. Please
respond as soon as you can since they are leaving soon and I have been
pretty bad in leaving this to the last minute.

Thanks,

Sonia

What Should I Do Now?

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2006

This is a follow up to my post about Protopic. I’ve decided not to use
that anymore because of the risks. I was wondering if anybody on here
could suggest something else. I don’t want to use steriods or nizorol.
I’m contemplating asking my derm to try oral anti-fungals, something
that Dr. Nase had suggested.

Bad acvm experience

Sunday, January 1st, 2006

I’m unsure if this is a common side effect of 100% acvm but I had a
bad reaction to it over the weekend and the effects have still yet to
subside.

In previous posts I had mentioned that I have pure-SD and that I had
some success with various dilutions of acvm during the previous two
weeks. Last Friday, I took a shower and dried off, washed my face
with organic vitamin e soap, patted it dry and then drenched my face
with 100% acvm. When I woke up on Saturday morning, everything was
OK; still had a few flakes but nothing major.

I then took another shower and dried off, washed my face with the same
vitamin e soap, patted it dry, and then drenched my face with 100%
acvm. However, about 2 hours after the vinegar had dried, my face was
still really red and the skin on my cheeks was beginning to crack.
