about seb derm 2

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

Oh, and forgot: when I flush I’m very red, when I don’t there’s no
residue redness on specific spots usually. This makes me doubt I have
actually seb derm on my cheeks and most part of my face. Is the
redness and inflammation from seb derm usually stubborn? And do you
guys flush as well from it?

Sorry for all these questions, but I would appreciate it highly if
someone could give me some help with this all.
Best wishes, natalja

questions about the looks of seb derm

Monday, January 30th, 2006

Hi all,

I have severe rosacea and possibly also seb derm. it is important for
me to make sure I actually have seb derm. Maybe you can tell me what
it looks like with you and I tell how my skin looks like and maybe
some of you can tell me if they have something similar?

Apart from the intense flsuhings I have some yellow looking skin
around my nasolabial folds I believe it is called. The area around
your mouth and between the mouth and nose. Also besides my nose I have
yellow flakes and between my eyebrows. Seems classic seb derm to me.
BUT, more important to me is whether I have it as well on my cheeks:
My skin is dry, but when I cleans it carefully with a cotton path and
bottled water, I often take off small yellow flakes. This might be
just old, death skin cells, or maybe seb derm? When I take my

Sunscreen

Monday, January 30th, 2006

Went to Jamaica for a week and what worked extremely well was Banana
Boat sunscreen. I’m talking night and day from day 1 of the trip to
day 8. I plan to continue using it in the redder areas (which are not
so red at the moment). I had Ovace gel prescribed so I’ll pick that
up sometime this week. I continue to use Jojoba oil on the eyebrows
and in/behind the ears. Has worked pretty well. It goes on
sticky/shiny but dries fairly quickly (not like say Vaseline) but the
flakes are not there on only slightly there at the end of a work day.

I pray one day they find a cure but I’m guessing not enough R&D
dollars go into something that is more or less a nuisance to the
medical community (versus say cancer research).

Most days are not a problem but the day I flew to Jamaica was horrible
and it is difficult not to get overly concerned about it, even at my

Q about cutanix

Friday, January 27th, 2006

For all those Cutanix people . . .

Hi,

I’ve read on some posts that a couple of people have tried certain
products from the Cutanix website and have found those products to be
helful in controlling SD. I was just wondering if someone could
recommend which type of product I should use. I have very sensitive
skin which is also prone to acne. Is it the gel that I would use?

Also, has anyone had any problems in trying to get Ovace gel. I called
this 1 800 number to ask them if they need a prescription, which they
do, and was wondering how any of you went about getting the product.
I’m thinking about telling my doctor about it and seeing if he
wouldn’t mind calling the number or something. I’m just not sure the

Lamisil AT?

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

I googled this and some have it listed as helping with SD. Has anyone
on here tried the cream? Also, it has a lot of diffrent alchols in it.
Wouldnt that be bad for SD?

Photoderm

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

I can’t believe I didn’t find this group earlier. Anyway, am 36M and
have had issues with SD probably since I was 13. Early years were
terrible - high school and college very tough on self-esteem and acne
to boot didn’t help.

Anyway, survived all that but my SD still nags me to no end. My
regimen has varied quite a bit. I’m pretty sure I’ve tried every
shampoo under the sun.

Anyway, I’ve done quite a bit of "googling" today. Has anyone ever
tried/considered Photoderm? Reason I ask is that I probably used
steady diet of steroid creams for the 1st 10 years of treatment
(military doctors - my dad was a Marine) never warned me of prolonged
use - they probably didn’t know - but, now, no matter what, the
redness to sides of my nose appear permanent. Only when I’m really

Zileuton (asthma med) to reduce sebum comparable to low dose accutan

Wednesday, January 18th, 2006

Hi,
A study showed that the common asthma medication Zileuton reduced sebum
output in the same manner as low dose isotretinoin. That is very
interesting, as the side effects are VERY different and much less
severe, in fact seems any people dont have any side effects from using
Zileuton.

Any comments?

yet another threelac update.

Tuesday, January 17th, 2006

Hey y’all, I think quite a while has passed now, and I’m wondering
for those who use Threelac, do you feel it’s helped at all. I’m
debating whether to order it, and I’d like to hear from people who
have used it for quite some time, preferably a couple months or
longer. I suspect the results will be quite scattershot and not
definitive, as is most of the treatments everybody’s tried. Anyway,
as usual, any help is greatly appreciated.

diagnosed today with Seb. Derm

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

My dermatologist told me I have seborrheic dermatitis. I gave me some
stuff called luxiq. Has anyone had any success with that? Well I’d
hate to read through all the messages so if anyone has any
recommendations on things that work for them please tell me. Right now
I have scaly spots along my hairline close to my ears. They’re about
the size of a quarter. I also break out in a type of itchy rash in the
middle of my chest and the back of my ears. Any home remedies? What
about over the counter medications? Are there any lotions, creams, or
daily face wash, body wash, etc. products that you would recommend?
Anything you could tell me would really help.
