Soap question (Glycerin)

Tuesday, December 6th, 2005

I am currently using Cetaphil cleanser which is ok but rather
expensive. I have seen some Pears Translucent Soap in my local
drugstore which is supposedly hypo-allergenic and non-comodegenic. It
has a very short list of ingredients which I figure to be good as
there’s less ‘crap’ in it.

One of the ingredients is Glycerin. I have seen conflicting opinions
about whether this is good or bad for oily skin. What are the opinions
of those here?

Acne and Seb Derm

Monday, December 5th, 2005

Anyone here have acne as well as SD? What treatments do you use for
your acne and how have you found them to interact with seb derm? I,
for example, am extremely reluctant to use topical steroids around my
nose because i know it will cause a major breakout of acne.
Cosmetically I am no better off.

aloe vera

I posted a month or so ago about using
aloe vera gel, and I’m pleased to report
I haven’t had any problems since then.
I try to wash regularly and watch closely
and if I see the slightest bit of redness
immediately treat it with the aloe vera.
My layman theory is that when my skin got
inflamed and then scabbed/flaked, it never
got to heal properly and then was more
susceptible and that the aloe vera helped it
heal more quickly. As I recall, I probably
did it a week or so before I saw real results.

Newbie here

Hi,

I’m 25 and was diagnosed with sebderm in late Jan 2005 by my
dermatologist. He put me on a regimen of Ketonconazole, Lorprox
shampoo and Desonide cream. Even though I applied the medications
religiously, the stuff never fully supressed the condition–there was
always a few flakes and dull redness to my face.

I recently ditched the prescriptions and moved on to trying organic
aloe vera gel (twice a day on my face/4 tablespoons ingested per day).
While I’m only on day 3 of this approach, and have yet to see results,
I’m hoping that this will be more effective than prescription
medicines. I’d like to know if anyone else has gone this route and, if
so, what sort of success have you had?
