Who still uses Protopic?
I was prescribed Protopic by my derm and it’s working good. I came
back on here to check up on what you guys had to say about it and
found the Cancer scare information. It’s kinda sad, because I’d found
something that works for me, but the risk seems to be too great. I was
curious as to how many folks on here still use it?

I quit Elidel cause of the POTENTIAL cancer connection. I personally
think that it has nothing to do with cancer development and the
black-box warning is issued because people get paranoid when it comes
to cancer. I switched to DRL instead.

I had just gotten a refill of Protopic filled and read the FDA
warning. So I spoke to my pharmacist at Kaiser Hospital in Bellflower,
CA.., USA, about a refund. He told me that the FDA has not issued a
recall of Protopic, so no refund. A week later, I needed to use
Protopic again, so I’m happy I did NOT get a refund! It has been the
ONLY topical prescription that has worked the best on my face. It’s
not cheap! I’ll be glad when the patent runs out so a generic version
can be made.

I find now that I only have to use it once a week or so to keep my skin
in a decent condition. Although I did use it twice a day every day for
the first few months.
Baz Luhrman once said: "If I could offer you only one tip for the
future, sunscreen would be
it." Which is probably good advice - if you’re using protopic, use a
high spf sunscreen aswell to help reduce the risk (but still avoid the
sun as much as practical).

i believe this "XXX causes cancer" stuff is alot of
baloney. they feed huge amount of stuff to rats and lo
and behold some get cancer.
if u fed a person 5 pounds of pizza a day i bet
they would get cancer also. doesnt mean pizza causes
cancer.

Protopic works like a charm, but I won’t use it. If it were just skin
cancer risk, I would, but lymphoma is scary business. I used it for
quite a while, too — more than a year.

Sunscreen unfortunately won’t help with the lymphoma risk.
