My experience
Hi,
I’m 59 and have had what seems to be SD on and off since last
summer. I’ve had red burning skin around the nose mostly,
which burns like heck for a few days then begins to scab, but
then flakes before the skin underneath is fully mature.
Doctors, including both primary care & dermatologists
weren’t too much help- just prescribing bactroban(it was first
diagnosed as impetigo)which burned like heck, then hydrocortisone
(which I know and they warn is not good for my thinning aging skin)
and oxistat which was expensive & hard to tell whether it was helping.
Here’s what I’ve been doing the past few weeks, which
seems to be working for the time being.
1) Washing daily (i use Dr Bronner’s liquid soap)
2) Using Aloe Vera gel(available at Trader Joe’s
for about $3)
3) Eating a clove of garlic each day plus a little vinegar
& olive oil most days.
4) Trying to get adequate rest and avoid letting myself get
stressed out as much as possible(This is the hardest & it
involves a lot of prayer & trying to focus on positive thoughts)
It seems like the logical thing to do is to focus on trying to
heal & build up the skin/immune system to be less susceptible but
doctors seem to only focus on treating symptons.
I will let you know how things progress

Hi Mike,
Sounds like good advice my friend. I do think that in my own case
stress was the factor that triggered seb derm, so I would say that
avoiding stress is a good thing trying to reduce the symptoms.
I like walking in nature and things like that. Praying sounds like a
good way to get to base line too.
You say you use aloe vera gel. Aloe vera gel can be helpful in seb derm
cases.
I would also mention the DRL lotion from Cutanix, preferrably the
sensitive skin version. I use it in the evening, and then I apply it
again a few hour before getting up in the morning, and then I wash my
face when I get up to remove any oilyness on my face.
I do was my face with clean water a couple of times duirng the day to
get away sebum.
