acid mantle cream
i have had rosacea for 30 some years, then about 13 yrs ago, my
forehead (which had always been clear) developed itchy pimples. i
also had the flaking around eyebrows, nose. Derm. put me on a
steroid and topical antiobiotic, which cleared up the forehead like
magic.
a couple of yrs. ago i was made aware that i had been on the steroid
too long. with help, i weaned off of it and used elidel. when
completely off the steroid, i developed major flaking/scaling,
redness, itching, (really got worse as cold weather came) the elidel
did not help. every derm. visit we tried something new. no luck. i
tried the ovace and pramasone, only made itching worse, no help to
flaking. hydrocortisone barely kept it under control.
i was about to make a phone call to derm for something else, when i
found myself looking at this acid mantle cream. it’s a ph restorer.
it states it’s for skin irritations. I thought why not try it i have
nothing to lose. at the time i tried it, i had major scaling and
itching. after two days the flaking/scaling was better with minimal
itching. no breakouts. i kept using it and gradually there was no
flaking. i thought this must be a fluke. the real test was when i
go back to work and have makeup on, etc. again, no flaking. some
pimples started, so i started the elidel again and that helped. it’s
been 2 and a half weeks and my forehead looks better than it has in
months. i have stopped the hydrocort. cream completely and just use
acid mantle cream and elidel for any pimples.
i just wanted to pass it along. it’s cheap, you can get in on the
web. maybe it will work for someone else, maybe not. I hope it
continues to work for me—i don’t want to go back to a steroid. Sue
