Help with the oily skin
Hi
Has anyone encountered a way of reducing/controlling the excessive
amount of sebum on the sebderm areas( other than accutane ). What are
the options? Do you think diet affect this?
I have noticed that my skin is more oily when I have irregular sleep
cycles and when I am under stress.
Oily skin is the only thing I cannot put under control from the
sebderm symptoms. It looks quite bad under neon lights.
Hear from you soon,

Accutane will do the trick. A low dose should help you with your
problems. Right now it’s the only thing out there that does this, but
hopefully there will be alternatives out soon which will work just as
good.

Hi Ice,
I dont know of anything that will reduce sebum other than low dose
accutane. I have been on that since june 2004 (10 mg 3 times pr week)
combined with Elidel. It works well.
I am now off both medications, since I am going to Rio de Janeiro for
a month to morrow (both Elidel and accutane causes sun sensitivity)
I find Elidel has some side effects that I do not like, one is
congested nose, two is sun sensitivity and the third is nausea.
Accutane is of course a strain on the system as well, but I think it
was worth the try.
So for my stay in Rio I am just going to use the Dramatic Relief
Lotion. I dont like that, because the DRL is not in the same class as
Elidel I feel. But thats how it is.
I will see my dermatologist again in march, but I do not think I will
go back to taking accutane. I might go back to using Elidel when I
get home from Rio, since sun sensitivity is not a problem for me in
Norway before summer.
Sorry I could not help you more,

Hi,
It may not work for everyone, but vitamin b5 has controlled my
oiliness by about 75%. I still have oiliness on my forehead, but I
know that it would be much worse without b5.
Still, I am considering trying low dose accutane for more complete
oil control. Mads, can you tell me a bit more about your experience
with it? Did you have negative side effects when you first started
it? Was your doctor reluctant to prescribe it? Do you think it helped
with redness at all or just oiliness?
Thank you,
Tim
