Newbie looking for advice…

Tuesday, June 28th, 2005

Hello to all:

I just joined this group and am searching for some help with my SD
(as I recently found out it was called). I have had this problem for
only a year or so (I am 24 years old). For me personally, the
problem consists of mild dryness under the armpit area and sometimes
on my back with itching. However, the biggest problems are (1) my
scalp which constantly flakes and often itches and (2) my face
around my eyebrows, my upper lip, and predominantly on the sides of
my nose and on my face area next to my nose. I have done quite a bit
of research on the topic tonight trying to get a feel for the
condition because it has seemed to get worse for me over the past
few weeks. My skin on my face around my nose is constantly peeling
now and is noticeably red.

Future Treatments

Tuesday, June 28th, 2005

Here’s an interesting post from Dr. Nase on the rosacea group.

Hello Aurelia,

Hard question:

1. Long term low dose accutane
2. PDT
3. Smoothbeam — but not recommended for most rosacea sufferers yet
3. The Future: Indocyanine green chromophore followed with diode
laser — future of sebaceous gland treatment. This chromophore dye
diffuses directly down the pore into all areas of the sebaceous
gland lobules. It has a stong affinity for certain types of cells
only found in sebaceous glands — immature sebocytes — so it
diffuses to these cell types and not all over the skin. The

Has anyone tried this laser treatment? It’s supposed to reduce the
size of the glands that produce sebum.

Elidel and Acne topicals

Sunday, June 26th, 2005

I’ve been using Elidel off and on for about a year now. I really
think it does work but I’ve never really been able to use if for
more than 2 days at a time because the burning feeling is almost
intolerable. Has anyone else had a burning effect from Elidel that
stopped them from using it?

Also has anyone noticed that acne topicals like brevoxyl cream wash
really irritate seb derm?

Loprox

Saturday, June 25th, 2005

Hi,
I tried Loprox a couple of years ago. At the time my skin was very
oily, so it didn’t work too well. My theory is that it couldn’t get
past the oil to work on my skin. Now that my skin is less oily,
because of vitamin B5, I might give it another try. It’s supposed to
have antifungal effects similar to Nizoral.

success for almost a year

Friday, June 24th, 2005

Finally figured out how to post messages again. Ive had sebderm for
3 years and have tried numerous antifungals, honey apple cider
vineger and steroids. The steroids screwed up my face I now have
rosacea even though my derm says its perfectly safe and they use it
on babys bottums. PISS ME OFF. IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE SEBDERM OR ARE
UNSURE WHETHER YOU HAVE SEB DERM OR ROSACEA PLEASE TRY THIS
(((LOPROX))) this is a cream with a fairly new antifungal 1%
Ciclopiroxolamine. WORKS PERFECTLY for 9 months Ive been putting
this stuff on It doesnt help my rosacea but any time i have a seb
attack i put this stuff on and within 2 days my problem is cleared
up. Effects are noticeble over night. What a releif no more picking
flakes of my nose and chin no more red rashes in that area either. I
hope everbody reads this and gives it a try (lets make this group
obsolete)

experiences with lactibon

Friday, June 24th, 2005

Hi,

In the past i’ve had great relief with coal tar
creams, but now i’ve been using an acid soap called
lactibon 3.5 pH, which has been excellent for my
sebderm, to the point that i dont need anymore the
coal tar creams. After the initial period that goes
around a week or two after once daily application it
gets very stable, to the point that i can do & eat
things that used to produce big flare outs.

But anyhow, in the same time i have less life stress
to deal with, so its difficult to tell cause and
effect here

Has anyone tried Photodynamic w/Levulan

Thursday, June 23rd, 2005

There was some talk a while back about a couple of people trying this
procedure. Has anybody actually done it? I had a consultation last
week that didn’t go over too well. The doc was a little off and
judging from the comments I got from Dr. Nase on the rosacea board, I
should seek a 2nd opinion. I’m just curious how antonio and blueboy
are fairing with this.

Udo’s Choice

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

Hey folks!

I’ve just had my second V-beam laser treatment, and right now I’m a
bit puffy and not so nice, but I’ll let you know how it all turns out
when my face has cooled down in a few more days.

Has anyone tried some of the products from Udo’s Choice? Their
Ultimate Oil Blend was actully recommended and given to me by a
homeopath I went to a while back. It was really nasty stuff, but I
saw that they’re also available in gel caps now - much better! They
do have some probiotics aswell, and they mention yeast overgrowth
among other things.

I’ve just contacted their supplier up here in Sweden, I think I’ll
give these products a shot!

aloe or not

Monday, June 20th, 2005

Several weeks ago I tried some aloe vera gel on my face for the
first time. I found out that intially when you put it on it feels
real good, but in the next couple days my face got much much worse in
terms of redness, and I even started itching for the first time
(especially when rain would fall on my face). I was wondering if
anyone else has had a negative experience with aloe gel. I didn’t
know how often to apply or whether there was a "proper" method in
applying it.
More importantly however, I was wondering if my reaction was
primarily due to prednisone, which is an oral steroid I have to take
for Crohn’s disease (although I don’t have to take it permanently).
Needless to say, since it’s a steroid, ance on my face is severe. I
guess what I want to know is does acne inflame SD?. And when
applying creams or gels to my face, do you think that will increase
the acne?. Again, I couldn’t tell whether the negative reaction I
