Around my nose and eyelids

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005

Hi all
I’m new here but not new to message boards so forgive me for not
really searching this group 1st. I am just so fed up with the SD on
my nose, eyelids, and in my ears. I’ve tried cortisone creams, OTC
and RX by doctor. I use 99% Aloe vera gel to help soothe it, but it
won’t really calm it down much. I am from Canada and nobody here
ever heard of ZNP soap. Does it work? Anybody try it? A drug store
here suggested I try a mild facial wash with tea tree oil in it? I
just get so frustrated with it. It affects my nose mostly as far as
redness/flaking cycle goes. Heavy, continual crusty skin that
flakes really easy off my nose and leaves redness. My doctor tells
me its sebderm. How can one tell the real difference between rosacea
and sebderm? Sorry for long post.

Hey everybody.. just wanted to mark this "occasion" in some way, it
is after all three years on the day since this group was founded.
Weird date, considering 9/11 is known for something much more tragic
and bigger than SD, allthough it plays a big role in our lives,
wheather we want to or not.

I hope you’re all doing fine. I’m going with full steam ahead,
lasers, Accutane, DRL - you name it.

And I also hope we can continue to have this place to talk and share
ideas and feelings on this whole thing that is SD, and keep doing so
in the same friendly atmosphere that has been the trademark of the
group since it’s birth.

Take care,

Laser and sebderm

Friday, May 27th, 2005

People have posted about laser treatments they’ve done for Rosacea
but I wanted to hear more about those who have used it for sebderm.
Does anybody have any info on the Bclear system? I saw on a website
it was being used over in the UK to treeat eczema and sebderm. In
the states it seems to be primarly used for extreme cases of
psoriasis. Any info on this subject would be helpful.

For those who have tried Accutane!

Thursday, May 26th, 2005

Hey Everyone!

I hope that everyone’s week is going great. I went to my doc today
and we discussed what types of other treatments I should try. One
that popped up was Accutane. Previously, I have read some articles
and some of the members’ posts about this type of medication. I know
that there are a lot of side effects, but no other method/medication
has really worked to clear my sd/acme. It would be greatly
appriciated if someone who has been on this medication can tell me or
describe what it is like. It is one thing to read what a medication
does and what to expect, but it is quite something else to experience
it first hand. It scares me to read about the frequent nose bleeds,
dryness ect ect. Any bit of information (no matter how small) would
help me decide if I should try Accutane.

This is one to keep an eye on.

If you want to read about it you can search on google

Laser

Wednesday, May 18th, 2005

Well folks, that’s it. I can’t take this anymore, so I spoke to a
doctor today who’s speciality is laser treatments and he showed me
pictures of rosacea patients before and after, and we talked a bit
and he could see right away that I do have a form of rosacea. Red
nose and cheeks, which get’s a whole lot worse in cold/hot weather,
if I eat or drink something hot and/or spicy and so on. So I got an
appointment in October for my first treatment, I may need a few more
to get this thing under control, and it’s damn costly, but well worth
it if it should work as good as he explained.

I’m also back on Accutane, 20 mg twice a day to begin with, then I
might take a lower dose.

Winter is coming and I’m already thinking of those cold winter days
when I go to work and get there bright red, well not anymore!!

Apple Cider Vinegar website

Do take the time to read through the groups archives to form your own
opinion on ACV as a treatment for SD.

Don’t believe what you’ve heard about the smell, it’s gone within
five minutes of application. I would saturate my scalp, face, neck
and shoulders with this stuff before work and no-one could smell a
thing.

It took two or three weeks to clear my scalp, and about ten more
weeks to clear my face. I had some pretty intense flare ups in those
ten weeks due to steriod withdrawl and the acidity of the ACV. But
the results are infinitely worth the temporary discomfort.

The moderator of the ACV group is very passionate about what he
calls ‘The SD friendly diet’. I’ll let you make your mind up about

SD Worse in Winter!

Friday, May 13th, 2005

Hey everyone,

I just have a quick question. I know my SD is worse in winter and
more itchy. I was wondering if anybody takes some kind of oral
medication to reduce the itchyness???? I heard that some people can
take such a thing, but I don’t know what it is called or if it
actually does reduce the itchyness. I just don’t know how else
to "control" the itch without medicated creams (i.e. 1%
hydrocortisone creams). Any suggestions or comments?

Thanks a bunch,

Sonia
