adventures with ketoconazole

Thursday, April 7th, 2005

Hi, I’m new to the group but I have been following various
message threads with great interest. What I’m interested in knowing
is peoples’ experience with washing their faces with ketoconazole
shampoo. Initially I ignored the directions and left it on my face
instead of washing it off. At first it seemed to significantly
reduce flaking, but then a "different" kind of flake started
appearing, in addition to the skin becoming very taut and leathery.
Because of the leatheriness it seemed like I could touch my skin and
not produce flakes by rubbing. But these different kind of flakes
would not relent. They were fewer in number, but much larger, so I
thought I could tolerate them. At any rate, I eventually started
washing the ketoconazole 10 min. after I applied it and I’ve had
mixed results (just like with everything else).
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has had similar experiences
and what their impressions of ketoconazole were. I’m also very

Anti-inflammatory fruits

Monday, April 4th, 2005

I have been doing well with Cutanix, Aloe Vera moistuizer, flax oil
pills, and washing my face in the eve with Oil of Olay gentle foam
wash, and in AM with just water. I have been flake free for about
2.5 months. I do get some redness off and on in the SD area.

Two weeks ago, I had a flare up of SD after I had to put my dog
down. I also have rosacea. My face was feeling very irritated and
it started flaking.

I decided to start eating fresh fruit in the AM, based on reading Dr.
Nase’s book on Rosacea. (I think that is where I read it, I read
stuff everywhere on these conditions)

So, I bought berries which are suppose to be anti-inflammatory. I
ate strawberries and blueberries each am (and cantaloupe for the heck

Seb Derm or Rosacea?

Sunday, April 3rd, 2005

Hi - I’m new to the group and have a question. How do you know if
you have seb derm or if it’s rosacea? I have seen my doctor and was
diagnosed with rosacea. I can’t use metrogel due to my hands and
feet going numb while using it, Finacea was like putting pure acid on
my face - before I try more costly rosacea treatments, I want to make
sure what I have isn’t seb derm, because the treatments can be very
different and what can be good for seb derm, can really be torture
for rosacea. To further complicate matters, I understand a person
can have both at the same time.

My face has lasting redness on the sides of my face where one would
lay on a pillow. I don’t have episodes where I flush more due to hot
liquids, heat, sun, cold, etc. - the redness is constant. My skin is
oily and I have enlarged pores. The redness is not in a classic
butterfly pattern, but I do have it on my cheeks, and the sides of my
