Pityrosporum Folliculitis
Hey Everyone,
Has anyone heard of pityrosporum folliculitis? My derm seems to
think that may be what I have now but said it would take 5 to 6
months to get rid of.

Yes–it looks and acts alot like seb derm but I think is more like pimples
and pustules than seb derm.. I think they usally prescrive oral anit-fungals
for this but you should try topicals first as the orals carry some risks

Thanks for the reply,
I’ve actually recently been on one week of 400mg/day of itraconazole
and then 200mg/day of ketoconazole for one week plus tried using the
2% shampoo and things have just seemed to get worse. I’ve read a few
places that sometimes it takes 30 to 60 days of oral anti-fungals to
really nip it in the bud. I’m curious as to the statistics of liver
damage at what dose and for how long.
Anyone been on oral antifungals for at least 30 days?

On that kind of a dose, I would think your doctor should be monitoring liver
on a bi-weekly basis at least–I don’t mean to freak you out as these drugs
are relatively safe, but you never know how your liver is going to react
unless it is being monitored.
Check out the drug websites for more info on side effects and drug
interactionsand what you can and should be looking for but you shoul dask
your doctor about getting your liver tested weekly or bi-weekly–these are
powerful drugs
