adventures with ketoconazole
Hi, I’m new to the group but I have been following various
message threads with great interest. What I’m interested in knowing
is peoples’ experience with washing their faces with ketoconazole
shampoo. Initially I ignored the directions and left it on my face
instead of washing it off. At first it seemed to significantly
reduce flaking, but then a "different" kind of flake started
appearing, in addition to the skin becoming very taut and leathery.
Because of the leatheriness it seemed like I could touch my skin and
not produce flakes by rubbing. But these different kind of flakes
would not relent. They were fewer in number, but much larger, so I
thought I could tolerate them. At any rate, I eventually started
washing the ketoconazole 10 min. after I applied it and I’ve had
mixed results (just like with everything else).
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has had similar experiences
and what their impressions of ketoconazole were. I’m also very
interested if anyone can recommend another shampoo to use on the face
and how effective they are.

Every other week or so I dab the suds on my face and leave on for max
5 minutes. I don’t wash my face with it. I just dab the suds on in
the afternoon after work. Then I take a day off and do it again after
another day. Then I stop for another week to week and a half. So far
this seems to have helped in most respects. It isn’t perfect, but it
has helped. I’d say at 10 min that is much too long to be leaving
this stuff on your face. The instructions generally say 5 min on the
scalp…my derm prescription says 8 min on scalp. The face is more
sensitive though so I’d leave it on max 5 min and then rinse it off.
At least that’s what I’ve been doing. The only adverse effects I
notice are if I use it more than those 2 days. Then I seem to get
some irritation.
So maybe try limiting the usage and see if that helps a little. The
ingredients in the shampoo ain’t the nicest, so it’s best not to leave
them on too long imo. Or you can try as someone suggested to see if a
pharmacy can put the drug in with some more harmless ingredients.
