Diet Question

I know that people have mentioned a low carb/low sugar
diet before on this list. I’m trying to cut back
especially on sugars and I’m trying to drink more
water, especially now that summer is coming and
it’s hot as hell where I live.

Anyway, I don’t much like water so I’ve been drinking
diet sodas, club sodas and seltzer water instead. But
recently I’ve read that carbonated drinks aren’t good
for you. Supposedly one of the problems is they take
the minerals out of your system, especially
calcium. (It’s always one damn thing or another,
isn’t it?)

So I got the idea of trying to make up my own flavored

waters - add some non-harmful flavoring (if such a
thing exists) to plain water - no carbonation, no
sugar, no artificial sweetners, etc. I searched
around in some usenet newsgroups and found this:

Anyone try DaVinci syrup? What about just trying some
natural flavoring/extracts (e.g. nutmeg, cinnamon,
etc.) instead? Just curious if anyone on this list
has gone in this direction.

Also, does anyone know if the quinine in tonic water
would help seb derm or rosacea?

    Hi,
    I dont know about diet. I do know that too much iodine will give me
    acne breakouts very quickly, but I need to eat shrimp, shellfish or a
    lot of salt (like peanuts) for it to happen. Years ago I did decide
    to eat healthy, so it has been a long time since I drank coca cola
    and ate hamburgers and candy and chips and micro wave dinners etc on
    a regular basis. I work out on a regular basis though. I dont smoke
    or drink. Does it do much for seb derm? Drinking and smoking I feel
    might be negative. As for diet, I dont know. SOmetimes if I eat lots
    of icecream (I always eat a lot when I first eat food like that) I
    might notice my skin getting a little oilier than usual, but it is
    not something I am sure of. I just like to eat healthy anyways.
    Probiotics I feel are good, like yoghurt with added probiotics. But
    it doesnt cure anything.


    You could just take water and squeeze in a few drops of lemon or a
    few slices of lime. Things like that.

    Yes that is a good idea and I was going to try it. May also try
    oranges too. I read that drinking lots of water is supposed to be
    good for the skin and that most people don’t drink nearly enough
    water each day.

    In my experience, diet hasn’t made much of a difference. I eat very
    healthy now which as a whole is good for me, however, in terms of seb
    derm….well I still have it. I’m sure it helps somewhat with the
    everything, but it isn’t going to be a complete cure. Heck, I’ve
    tried eliminating virtually everything that is supposed to not be good
    for seb derm and all I’ve succeeded in doing is starving myself.

    I don’t know much about the water stuff.
