Burning eyes ?
Hi All
I have this wierd burning in my eyes , so i want to ask if any of you
has the same symptoms and how do you treat them.
The symptoms are :
- Eyes burning almost 24/7 , but the burning is "mild" with
occasional episodes of really intense burning. I’ve found out that
diffirent triggers can cause the intense burning in the eyes and one
of them that works almost everytime is - entering a car which has
stood in the sun for a couple of hours and the air inside has gotten
really hot … my eyes start to feel like they are on fire and i have
to close them.Another trigger is working out. Most of the triggers are
the same as the Rosacea triggers , but i can get the burning thing
going on , even when my face is fine.
I’ve also noticed something else - when the burning is really
intense , my vision gets a bit blurry.
- Visible blood vesels on the eyelids (i’m not sure when they first
appeared)
- My vision has gotten a bit blurry , especially when i look at
objects that are a bit far away.
- Running nose … yup , no temperature or stuff like that , im not
sick , but my nose is running.
I went to an Ophthalmologist a few weeks ago , she said that i have
allergic conjunctivitis and that the running nose is part of the
allergic reaction. She prescribed me some eye drops and some nose
drops. Both of them didn’t help at all and now 3-4 weeks later things
are absolutely the same if not even worse.
I also went to a Derm , and he said that he thinks that i don’t have
rosacea. I just don’t know what to think anymore , is it ocular
rosacea , is it an alergic reaction … etc. Im getting really tired
and pissed off by all this %^&#^%&^ :)))
I work with computers almost 10 hours a day and having eye problems
sucks big time
Ok i got a bit carried away , i guess im having a bad day
10x for reading
Take care

Ivan,
It does sound like an allergy–have your tried Claritin or Zyrtec–I
know you can buy claritin OTC now in the US and both Walgreens and
Eckerds have their own store brands and it is relatively inexpensive.
I get major crusting and redness in my eyes but not burning–every
morning it takes about 10-15 minutes for me to get rid of all the
crap in my eyes, and I do have allergies and major sinus problems but
I don’t think either the allergies or sinus are causing the eye
problems, I think I may have seb derm in the corners oy my eyes if
that is possible–nothing really helps it and my contacts seem to
make it worse. But I am luck in that it doenst hurt or effect my
vision once I all the stuff out of my eyes–some of it is stringy and
other parts are really crusty.
Not sure how people ar treating ocular rosacea these days, but I know
from reading about in the past that people were using baby shampoo to
cleanse their eyelids and this seemed to help a few people–cheap
enough to try it and see if it helps at all.
Godd luck.

Hi RJ,
If you have seb derm in the corners of your eyes, then that is a
bitch when it comes to what to put on it. I would suggest just trying
with a 100% pure aloe vera gel. It should not be harmful for the
eyes, as long as you dont put in ON the eyes.
I think your advice about zyrtec, claritin is a good one.

Mads,
Anything particualry different about the 100%Aloe gel you are using–
source of the alo, way it may be processed etc?
I live in Florida and alo grows like weeds down here–I have several
in my yard and have tried using the gel straight from the plant on
several occassions and it did not seem to help my skin/seb derm.
Actually, it kinda dried up within 20-30 minutes or so and then peeld
off, like it never absorbed fully into my skin.
Anyway, let me know if have any additional thoughts on the aloe you
are using.
Regarding Claritin, I think the best benefit of it is that it helps
to control the whole body itching that I get, even in areas where I
do not have seb derm–it may not too much for redness of seb derm but
at least I am not scratching 24-7.
Thanks,
RJ

Hi RJ,
Florida is great. I visited Orlando in 2002 and we drove down to
Miami.
Well, I guess I was a bit in-exact, the gel I use is 98 % Aloe Vera.
But it is the only active ingredient. The others are: xanthan gum,
sodium, benzoate, potassium sorbate, citric acid and sodium sulfite.
So I guess they added those ingredients to make it penetrate the skin
a little better? I do find that it dries quickly and if I massage it
gently it leaves no "residual aloe vera"(?).
Maybe just using the gel straight from the leaves is a bit too crude?
But let me make it clear that in my case the aloe vera gel is a good
band aid, it is not a complete cure.
Yeah, I dont find that claritin does much for seb derm, either. I
guess the itching ,redness in seb derm is related to other
inflammation pathways than the claritin addresses. But for other
types of itching it works very well.
Best wishes,
Mads
