Oral Itraconazole

Tuesday, March 29th, 2005

Hi.

I have read some interesting articles about the effectiveness and
long term safety of oral itraconazole for treating and preventing
relapses of SD. Here’s one of these articles:

Read it and lets hear oppinions.

Diet Question

Saturday, March 26th, 2005

I know that people have mentioned a low carb/low sugar
diet before on this list. I’m trying to cut back
especially on sugars and I’m trying to drink more
water, especially now that summer is coming and
it’s hot as hell where I live.

Anyway, I don’t much like water so I’ve been drinking
diet sodas, club sodas and seltzer water instead. But
recently I’ve read that carbonated drinks aren’t good
for you. Supposedly one of the problems is they take
the minerals out of your system, especially
calcium. (It’s always one damn thing or another,
isn’t it?)

So I got the idea of trying to make up my own flavored

Hey Mads

Friday, March 25th, 2005

I recall you mentioning you were (are?) in the army and you were
using some topical treatment not available in the US. Are you still
using it and what was it? If you’re still in the army are you going
to have to go to Iraq? I read that Denmark and the Netherlands had
a contingent there. I image the climate would be really bad on SD.

upset and need some advice

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2005

hey,

Just like everyone here I admit that I struggle to find some way to
deal with my SD. I think everyone would say that they feel
uncomfortable, upset and angry at least some of the time. This is
what i’m upset about . . . I’ve been seeing this guy for 5 months
now and I mentioned three months into the relationship that I have a
disorder (but I told him that I’m not quite comfortable sharing it
or telling him about it at that point). He brought it up today and I
managed to tell him a little bit about it (not the actual name of the
disorder). I told him I have a skin disorder that makes my skin red
and itchy. That there’s no cure. That I’m on medication. That certain
things trigger it (i.e. environment/hormones). After I told him some
information I was kind of quiet. He asked me some questions, but I
only answered the ones I felt comfortable answering. He said that he

response from dr nase

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2005

Hi Nick,

Thank you for your post. This is a relatively new treatment. I
have been following the success of some patients who have been
treated in Arizona.

Dr. Adrian is a real pro. I would follow almost any protocol he
would suggest. Nick, may I confirm that it was short contact
therapy (Levulan applied for 15 to 30 minutes) and then treatment
with blue light (not IPL).

This is one treatment that has the real potential to treat sebaceous
gland hyperplasia, follicular hyperkeratinization (little keratin
plugs sticking out of pores) and the lumpy bumpy texture. Nick, did
you have follicular hyperkeratinization (if you were to squeeze the

Photodynamic therapy

Monday, March 21st, 2005

To Group and Dr. Nase:

I recently underwent a series of treatments for moderate/severe
rosacea at the Center for Laser Surgery in Washington, DC with Dr.
Robert Adrian. Instead of IPL, he recommended a new therapy in
which a topical solution called Levulan Kerastick is applied to the
skin, then is activated by exposure to a Blue Light. It’s called
Photodynamic Therapy. I had 4 treatments and it really helped
eliminate the pustules on my face, and reduced my rhinophima, as
well as reducing the overproductive oil gland activity on my nose.
Now I am also undergoing a series of IPL treatments for the general
redness.

My question is: has anyone else undergone this? Or read anything
about it? I have seen a couple of news items about it, but nothing

Low dose acutane

Sunday, March 20th, 2005

I have posted here about my band aid treatment with aloe vera gel and
Linda Sy Acne Oil Control Gel. I have also spoken positively about
Cutanix.
I went see my derm the other day, because I feel the key to really
controlling seb derm is sebum reducement, and this can only be
acieved with accutane at tghe current moment.

I have taken a full course a few years ago, but that was for acne,
but it was helpful for my seb derm too, however, I believe that low
dose might be even more helpful, because of the anti inflammatory
effects, sebum reduction and also facial temperature reduction.

Anyways, my derm said I could try Elidel, it would be very effective
on the inflammation, but I convinced him that low dose accutane was
my choice, and he was willing to be practical, which is great.

Biocene

Saturday, March 19th, 2005

…. "Then they will get Biocene’s booster shot, which contains a
core HIV protein called gp120 that scientists already know stumulates
some immune response against HIV. The vaccine will be termed
effective if 30 percent of the volunteers develop immune lymphocytes
capable of killing HIV-infected cells and 90 percent develop another
immune protection called neutralizing antibodies, which can
inactivate HIV or prevent it from infecting cells."

So Biocene boosts the immune system. Could this be a good treatment
or even a cure ???

interesting

It’s the title of the article that got my attention :
"Seborrheic Dermatitis Today, GONE TOMORROW? The Link between the
Biocene and Treatment."

the problem is that you have to pay to read it , so i tried to find a
free copy , but with no success.
maybe others will have more luck …
i’m also going to do a small research on Biocene (i’ve never heard
about it , but it’s mentioned in the title)

Clean and Clear Facial Powder Question

Thursday, March 17th, 2005

A couple of months ago Tim recommended Clean and Clear facial powder
to help cover up the redness and oilyness. Where can you get this
product? Will it work for me? I don’t have a problem with
oilyness, just red dry flakey skin. Will it work on dry skin to
reduce the redness? Can someone recommend some makeup type products
for men to hide the red and small bumps/inflatmation? Thanks.
