Could it be the water???
I had been doing ok with Cutanix until about 3 weeks ago, the flaking
slowly came back. Then last Friday, my Husband and I went to San
Diego and Vegas. My diet was horrible, eating greasy foods, pizza,
and drinking too much. My skin was perfect on the entire trip. It
was never red or irritated.
Last nite, we got home, and I washed my face, the same as the same
prior nites. But my face burned, and I realized it had not hurt over
the prior week. It also had not peeled. This AM I got up, and it was
red and flaking.
Now one thing I would quickly attribute the diffence to is the
weather, but, at home in Mass. was 70 degrees yesterday and today.
So the weather in New England had caught up to where I had come
from. My thought is possibly that the water was very different where
I had been. A tour guide in Vegas even commented that the water in
Vegas has a Chlorine smell naturally.
When I get out of the shower at home, my face turns bright red, but
this did not happen on the trip.
Any thoughts from the group?
And another side comment… I was in that OTHER Seb Derm group. I
got out. It was very easy to see that the moderator was a control
freak. I did not understand why he even had a "group". He should
just have a web page telling people how to do it "right". A group
is a place to exchange ideas and failures and successes. His group
does not allow for expression of opinion.
Any comments on this water theory appreciated. I am going to get our
water tested.

Actually chlorine is supposed to be irritating. Do you have hard
water? Maybe the hotel had soft water. Maybe you had your shower
water too hot? I think sometimes going on trips in general is
helpful for the face, just because you spend more time doing fun and
unstressful things. When we get home we start obsessing with how we
look. Also, just the stress of returning home to everyday life
could be bad for the skin. I know, in general, I don’t have the
most pleasant feeling of health when I come home from a trip.
Maybe try taking a relative cool shower and see if it has an effect
on your skin.

Thanks for your input. I actually have been creeping the water temp
up on my showers, and should go back to a cooler shower.
And definitely will be getting the water tested, maybe it is hard and
getting a water treatment device may eliminate some of the Seb derm.
I think they said Vegas water has a lot of lyme, but it makes it
smell like chlorine or chemical. So maybe there is no chlorine in
it. Some other people on this board have posted that washing with
chlorinated pool water occasionally actually helped them. Maybe it
can work either way.
Anyway, thanks for your thoughts.

I actually decrease the water temp when I’m washing and rinsing my
hair out and try to keep the water cooler in general than I would
prefer. It may also be helpful to reduce shower time in general.
I have soft water at home, but when I visit my parents who have hard
water my skin often improves. Chlorine may be helpful to kill some
of the bacteria or whatever is causing skin problems. However, some
people complain later on about it.
All in all, I haven’t found much consistency to just about
anything. Sometimes I improve under supposedly worse conditions and
sometimes it gets worse. Same for good conditions.

I live in Scotland where the water is alot harder (and natural) Than
England and contains less chlorine. When i visit England i always
get worse, probably due to the increase in clorine they have in
theirs. My doc told me to take very cool showers becuase the cooler
it is the less chlorine it contains becuase some of the chlorine
evaporates off at lower temporatures.
