red patches ?? r those normal for SD
Hi Everyone
I’ve been a memeber of this groups for quite a while , but i havent
posted until now.Anyway , here is my story (the short version :)) ):
I was first diagnosed with SD when i was 18 - last year in high
school , graduation , prom … what a nightmare :)).The first doctor
that i went to , gave me a steroid cream and told me that i’ll be
cured in 2 weeks …… the rest is history :).
So now 6 years later , im back to where i was.I’ve used steroid
creams , antifungal creams , apple cider (which actually helped a bit)
homeopatic medicines etc , but my SD is still the same even a bit
worse.
All the doctors that i’ve been to , have told me that i have SD.
But i think that i also have rosacea , because i get kind of burning
sensations when going from hot to cold and from cold to hot , also
when i exercise or when I’m under stress , etc.
Now to the point
, sometimes during those "burning sensations" i
get red spots/patches/blotches on my face. They itch like hell and
they usually disappear after 15/20 mins.I get them even in areas on
my face that r not affected by the SD.Are those normal for SD or
maybe for rosacea ?
And one other thing , everytime i take a shower my skin gets really
really dry and flaky (not SD flaky , but dry skin flaky :)).Any ideas
how to get rid of this ??
Ivan
ps
By the way , im from Bulgaria and english is not my first language ,
so that explains my spelling and grammar mistakes ![]()

I get red patches, but nothing that disappears in 20 min. More like
20 days =).

try pure glycerine diluted by half with water for the dry skin–doesn’t do
too much for the redness, but at least helps keep the skin from peeling
every day
I put it on at night mostly, a few times a week–if it looks too greasy
still in the morning, I just pat it off with towel, but the skin underneath
stays moistureized
this stuf has saved me hours a week peeling the dead skin and flakes off my
forehead

The patches u r talking about r the "normal" SD
The patches that i was talking about r different -
patches (redness , flaking) , i also get them from
time to time and they stick with me for quite some
time
raised red areas that itch a lot , they dont last more
than 30 mins.

I’ll have to try that , but my skin is really oily and
im a bit worried that the glycerine will make it even
more oily. And one other thing , does the glycerine
really prevent the flaking , or it just makes the
flakes stick to the skin so that they r not
visible. That was the result i was getting from
different moisturizers.

I use a "grainy scrub" wash gel (i forgot the name).I
does get rid of the flakes , but it leaves my skin
very dry and sensitive.

I think you may be right about the hives.
Yup , i also get them when i exercise , not every time
, but pretty often.For example , this morning i rode a
bike for 30/40 mins and i got like 3-4 red
patches.They disappeared in 20 mins.
Another thing that manages to cause them almost
everytime is going from hot to cold enviroment and
vice versa (especially from cold to hot).
Is there anyway to prevent the hives from forming ?

I use a toothbrush to get rid of all the falkes first, then apply the
glycern to very wet skin–this method prevents the flakes from forming, not
just making them stick to the skin.
However, as I said earleir, I do not apply it to the broken, red, inflamed
seb derm areas, just the areas where it is really flaky
However, when I did aplly the glycerin and water to the bad broken red seb
derm areas, it did not make the redness any worse
Also, glycerin is not a mositurizer in the traditional sense, it is really
an emollient–there is no cream or checmicals in it and is a clear thick
syrup–that is why I dilute it with water.
Touvh call whether or not you want the flakes or the oily look, but I would
take the oily look any day fo the week compared to looking like a molting
snake–you cna slways blot off the extra glycerine with a towel or tissue
and the flakes should still be reduced drastically

You r probably right for OILY vs FLAKY.
Flakes suck BIIGGG TIME !
