Corticosteroids in herbal creams for eczema/dermatitis

Wednesday, November 17th, 2004

I know alot of us are looking for an answer to things, but just have
to be sure and do some research:

Researchers found that 20 of 24 herbal creams they tested illegally
contained corticosteroids, including many that had potent,
prescription-only forms of steroids. Labeling on one product, known
as Wau Wa cream, instructed users to put the cream all over the body–
potentially exposing children to dangerous steroid levels, the
researchers warn.

Topical corticosteroids quell inflammation and are often used to
treat atopic eczema, an allergic condition in which the skin becomes
inflamed, dry and itchy. These steroids can, however, have side
effects over time, including thinning skin and, in children, stunted
growth, which is why they should be used under a doctor’s supervision

Hi All

,

I’m new to this group after coming from the "other" seb derm group.
It seems Apple Cider Vinegar didn’t help my SD at all.. so I thought
of going back to traditional approaches.
Anyone had tried Nizoral, without it being effective, and then found
an alternative that DID work?

Will greatly appreciate any advice!!

Cheers,
Ed

LCD treatment

Saturday, November 13th, 2004

Hi,

Im new of this group; i suffer from chronic SD from
5~7 years now. My derm tells me my SD comes with acne,
despite i dont suffer from the usual pimple acne; from
time to time i got fairly big pustules that will have
to be drained or topicly treated with stuff like
Bactroban

For now, he put me on a LCD (liquor carbonis
detergens) treatment at 20% percent on a cream base.
With an initial treatment of topic Advantan
(corticosteroid), tetralysal (antibiotic), with the
hope to rely on a stable treatment upon LCD and
pyrithione zinc shampoos like Node DS.

Burt’s Bees Buttermilk Lotion

Friday, November 12th, 2004

I just wanted to let everyone know that I’m having no signs of SD
since i started using this lotion about 10 days ago. I wanted to give
everyone a head start on my progress before I hopefully give a 100%
recommendation later next week. I want to be sure that I continue the
success. I haven’t had to use either Locoid or Ketoconazole since and
I usually had to use it once every 3 or 4 days. I just use it on my
face. My skin looks and feels great, no scaling, flakes, itching or
redness. I will give a complete progress next week but until then
here is some info:

Burt’s Bees Buttermilk Lotion, enriched with healthy, safe
ingredients like vitamin A and aloe vera. This buttermilk lotion
contains no chemical additives.

Tony the Baloney in Australia

Wednesday, November 10th, 2004

Hey Guys
I have been in Australia for about 6 days now. I have no stress cause im
not working. I wake up every day around 7 am, sit outside in the sun for
about 30 mins. I eat what i want, drink what i want. I have been going out
with my cousin and even drinking vodka and sodas (3-4) drinks each night
including 1-2 beers per day. I dont know what it is or how to explain it
but my skin has never been any better no flakes, no redness, no itchyness,
no scaling, no embarrassment, its completely gone. Like a miracle. Im
afraid now that when i go back to florida in 2 weeks that the climate will
fuck me up again. Just letting you guys know how i am and i hope this
treatment what ever i am doing is stays forever. Maybe the food is
healthier here, or not so much chemicals in the water, or im not around a
substance that causes an allergy, or the fact that im in a dry, hot, cool
night environment, or that im not working and no stress. Just unbelievable.
I havnt taken one vitamin, no Vitamin B, no MSM, no vitamin C, no steroid

Have anyone been on Roaccutane? I am on it now and is worried. Pls h

Tuesday, November 9th, 2004

Hi all,

My derm has put me on a 1 month course of roaccutane (10mg x 1
daily). Today is my 5th day on it and I found my skin very much
less oily (I have oily t-zone and dry cheeks) and the pustules
drying up. Blackheads on the nose also cleared up. I am now
worried about the side effects, whether my skin will end up too dry
and what happens at the end of this treatment. Anyone here who have
used this treatment before, please share your experiences with me.
I have been on minocycline before and it works very well during
treatment and 2 weeks after that, everything’s back ‘to normal’ i.e.
the skin still break out like crazy.

Cortisone

Friday, November 5th, 2004

I know we are not supposed to use cortisone, but why? What are the
long term side effects? This is the only thing working for me right
now, and I dont even use it that often.
Thanks all.

I read about this on the rosacea site. Apparently it has a fungicide
in it which is good for sebderm.
