Supplements and Diet

To the group:

I have been searching the archives and am a bit confused with the
numerous suggestions and things people use/try for Sebderm. I was
wondering what most people use for supplements for sebderm and what
supplements they avoid. And also just some general information
pertaining to diet. What sort of foods do people eat for sebderm and
avoid?
I was also wondering about cleansers and soaps. I have read many of
the posts pertaining to this. I am having a hard time finding
something that will actually cleanse my face and also not irritate or
leave that fine layer of flakes all over.
My skin is a very oily T-zone with small bumps all over. My face
tends to be very itchy. I dont have dandruff or sebderm on scalp. I
think its just my face. I have more flaking where I shave as well but

pretty much a fine layer of what looks like dried skin all over my
face when I wash. Hey thats a good question what do the guys use to
shave their faces with?
I have used cetaphil gentle cleansing bar( cleans but leaves alot of
flaking) And I dont think my skin can handle it anymore. Ceitaphil
cleansing liquid( softens but ripped out chunks of skin, I think I
cannot have the Sodium Lauryl Sulfate perhaps). I have used Purpose
gentle cleansing bar( worked for a while but SUPER DRYING) I cant use
it now. They also have a liquid cleanser but alas…sodium lauryl
Sulfate. I have tried Zia cleansing gel which doesnt seem to irritate
however I dont feel its actually cleaning either. I am pretty Sure I
got way more blackheads/whiteheads etc when using this product. I had
tried the Eucerin Hydrating Cleanser and am still experimenting with
this and other Eucerin Products. By the way most all of these
products were recommended by my dermetologist. I am very frustrated
however because After washing with many of these I am oily again in
maybe 2-3hours. I cannot stand having all those lil bumps and dry
flakes. I was wondering what others here use and have success with.
Also am curious about creams/ointments etc. Have been using Differin
cream on skin to get rid of the lil bumps but doesnt seem to be doing
much.
Also do people here drink alot of water. If so…tapwater? Bottled?
Spring? Distilled? And do you wash your face with water that is from
tap or other?
I apologize for the length of this post. And also know many have
posted these things already.
Have read most but still unclear about these things.
Oh and one more thing. Do people here ever use alpha hydroxy? Or
exfoliate. Sometimes I feel like I should be exfoliating everyday
because of all these small lil flakes, which I feel are also making
my pores clog.
Thank you in advance to anyone who responds.

May good skin be with you. :)

hey pinkbuda, some from the rosacea board there say
that pansionic wet and dry electric rasor is good for
them, but it will be a bit expensive…as for soap
some have recomended viatimin e soap or alho vera
soap..i can still use the cetaphil gentle cleansing
bar but there is a masking fragrance in it that
probably is no good for us as well..i was in the
health food shop and there was a variety of products
to try… cod liver oil(omega3)…spring water, and
half a multiviatimin, and a probiotic which really
    seems to help my insides..

    Hey Amon,

I can sympathise with you. Particularly about your problems
with cleansers. I also cannot tolerate Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
or Sodium Laureth Sulfate. I used to use Clearasil Complete,
which worked wonders until they added SLS. Then I searched
for months trying to find a cleanser I could use. Everything
either irritated my skin like hell or completely dried it
    out.

Eventually I found Neutrogena Clear Pore Cream Wash. It’s
really gentle, doesn’t dry my skin and actually calms it
down rather than irritating. It cleans quite well and is
    designed for oily/spot prone skin.

My skin can also get oily after using it but for a while
now I’ve been using Garnier Synergie Sebum Control
Moisturiser. This is also really good, it not only keeps the
oil under control, it also helps with the itching and
    redness.

The combination of the above two works well to get rid of
the flakes aswell. They both contain Salicylic Acid (a beta
hydroxy acid - more gentle that alpha hydroxy) which helps.
I find I don’t need to do any other kind of exfoliation.

If you can get hold of these, it’s certainly worth giving
them a try. As for shaving, I just use Gillette shaving gel.
    I haven’t really found anything better, but I haven’t
    experimented much.

The only supplements I’ve tried are probiotics, Starflower
(Borage) oil (for Gamma Linolenic Acid) and MSM. All of
these may have helped a little, but it’s difficult to tell
as so many things can affect SebDerm.

I haven’t altered my diet in any way. I’m allergic to dairy
products, eggs & nuts but obviously I can’t say
whether this would affect the SebDerm because I haven’t
eaten any of them since I’ve had it. I think the general
idea with diet is to stay away from carbohydrates. The only
thing I’m relatively sure about is that alcohol makes my
    skin worse.

I try and drink a lot of water. Just tap water, I don’t
think whether it’s from the tap or bottled makes that much
difference. The idea is to keep yourself hydrated because if
you’re not, your skin is the last place that gets the
moisture as other parts of your body need it more.

I hope this is all helpful to you. If you want me to clarify
    anything let me know.

    All the best,

    Richard
