RE..Hard water

I found this post on the rosacea site.. seems like soft water
might be of great benefit to us.

Since there seems to be a lot of discussion in reference to salts, I
thought
I would bring this up again. I had stated in my "new member" post
recently
that I rarely experience any major flareups any longer. I gave my
whole long
history with one aspect being that I have been using a water softener
and
have not had any major problems. I believe it is sodium chloride that
is
added to soften the water. If we are low on it or run out of it, my

skin
lets me know immediately as soon as the water touches my skin. As
long as I
use the softened water my skin stays pretty normal and is never dry.
I used
to have oily skin. I really do think this can help with rosacea or
any of
the seb skin conditions. It makes my hair shiney and healthy, no
scalp
problems. I live in a private house, so I can easily have a softener.
For
those in an apartment, maybe there is a small under the sink device
that can
be added? I would never wash my skin with anything but softened water.

Jasmine, you notice a specific worsening of the
sebderm when you use hard water? Was there a time
when you used hard water, then got soft water, and
noticed your sebderm get better? I am very anxious to
see if there’s a real cause/effect relationship there
because I’ve long suspected that soft water would
help. The only reason I haven’t gotten it is that I
was told that a plumber would have to come and run new
pipes from my water main into my garage for me to do
it (and that is going to cost a mint). Nonetheless, I
am seriously considering having it done. It would be
totally worth it if it helped the sebderm.

An acquaintance of mine also told me that a friend of
theirs with rosacea is totally helped by swimming

frequently in their pool that has a salt-water
    chlorination system.

I wonder if you could just buy a bag of sodium chloride and add it to a
sinkful of distilled water to wash your face and hair–be a cheap enough
    experiment maybe?
