my case
Hello everyone…
I am reading and posting messages in this group for a while…
i am suffering from sebderm for atleast four years from now..(
that what the derm told me…) i see lot of mails..getting their
skin oily…but my case is quite contradictory..my face becomes
very very dry… it becomes so dry.. i even get cuts on my face…
i just have this condition on only my face…i never seen oil on the
skin… and the only one moisturiser i can apply on my face is
Vaseline..(petrolium jelly..) i have to apply atleast 3 or 4 times
a day..or else i cant live… sometimes when i am reading group
mails..i feel like if i have sebderm or something else…i am using
protopic from last 1 and 1/2 year… it works as long as you apply
it.. once you stopped you will get it back… i am not really
observant to see what firing it up… but little humidity helps me
with drying…can anyone tell me..anyway is it still possible to have
very very dry skin and SD ?.. please anyone tell me if i should
diagnose in a different direction… and one more question why only
my face….rest of my body skin is very good…i feel like i can
sacrifice any where except my face..
any thoughts…
thanks
kp.

Are you sure you don’t have eczema? Your symtoms sound more like that than
sebderm. You should try Elidel. It is a prescription ointment which feels a
lot like vaseline and might help you.

where on your face are you getting the flare ups? if it is on the sides of
your nose, eyebrows, ears, and hairline, good chance it is sebderm. even if
it is eczema, the treatments are pretty much the same, but you may want to
try some antifungal treatments as seb derm does have a fungus component
whereas eczema does not.
the standard antifungal treatment is nizoral 2% cream that your dr can give
you an rx for.

Thanks Goldie and Ralph…
for your valuable suggestions. I think it might be
eczema…yes..it happens only on my face… it varies but
pretty much my nose, eyebrows.. and cheeks…sometimes i get flakes…
some times it becomes very red…the skin there swells….i been
to around 20 derms… some diagnosed as atopic dermatitis…some said
its both Atopic + Seborrheic (is it possible…my understanding is
the difference is how you will aquire it….) for me all these
conditions are periodic.. they come and they go away.. again they
show up..
i think every derm will have standard procedure.. try…
antifungal…then steriods…then something else…..
antifungal has not even made nano difference on me…i used desonide
for a while.. now protopic…i think protopic is the best i have ever
seen…eventhough i am worried what side effects it may cause in
the long run…
i am following this group and tried…some things that are discussed
here…
i used ACV to my face..but it didnt help..but it sure helped to
reduce my flake on my head…i strongly suggest that it will be very
helpful to reduce flakes in your hair…My hair became very clear..
now.. i am applying once a month…but i observed that flakes on
my face are less when hair is cleared…
and also someone discussing the salt water yesterday… i tried it
just now..(1 am…)but still it has same effect as ACV….if you
tried ACV…with salt water you feel the same way…
thanks
