what works for me

Sunday, July 11th, 2004

Hi all. I’m relatively new to this group and this is my first
posting, but I just wanted to share what has been working for me.
For the past month I have been using Selson Blue shampoo about 3
times a week on my head and face. I leave it on for about 10 minutes
and then rinse off. It dries my face out a little bit but it has
really cut down on my face being red, oily, and flaky.

The second thing I do once a week is use the Biore nose strips. It’s
my belief that these really help at pulling all the excess skin out
of pores and lead to less inflamation. I have sensitive skin, so I
use the nose strips at night because they leave my nose a little red,
but the redness is gone by morning. I hope this helps!

Honeygar

Saturday, July 10th, 2004

This is a mixture of honey and apple cider vinegar.
Both ingredients have antibacterial and anti-fungal
properties. Before going to bed wash your hair and
face and towel dry. Then rub the Honeygar into your
scalp and on your face. After a few minutes it will
become sticky but dont worry just head off to bed.
Next morning wash your face only and carry on with
your day.Your hair will feel like you have a strong
hair gel in it so if that doesnt bother you then
your going to do well.Do this twice a week and see if it makes a
difference.

UPDATES

Thursday, July 8th, 2004

Hi,
The list has been a little slow lately. I hope that means that people
are doing well. Why don’t we all write in with an update on how we’re
doing?
If you’ve followed the list lately, you know that I’ve had a bit of a
relapse. Nothing seems to be working for me right now and my face has
become very red and oily. After trying DRL, Loprox, and a brief stint
back on Nizoral, I’ve decided to go back to Desowen to see if that
will give me some relief. In the past, the ointment has always been
more helpful to me than the lotion, so that’s what I’m going to try.
I hope to get a few months relief out of it so I can return to my
rotation of Head and Shoulders with selenium sulfide, Klaron and
Nizoral. As a last resort I am considering low-dose accutane as I’ve
heard mostly good things about it.
Anyway, that’s my update. What’s up with you?

Oiliness - Good Product

Tuesday, July 6th, 2004

I found something very helpful for oiliness - Clean and Clear Oil
Absorbing Powder. It does a terrific job of absorbing oil and
reducing shininess. It doesn’t get sticky or anything. It holds up
well to sweat too.
Try it out!

Sebasorb

Has anyone used this product to control oiliness?
I received some good suggestions on this list (Clearasil Green Clay
Mask and Clean and Clear Strips) for oiliness. They are effective,
but only short term. Has anyone had any luck with Sebasorb (or
anything else???)
I don’t know what’s going on. Lately, my skin has been so oily that I
can hardly keep up with it.
Thanks,
Tim

Help! Oiliness!

Friday, July 2nd, 2004

Does anyone have any good advice for excessive oiliness, mostly on
the forehead, but sort of all over the face???
I’ve started using Loprox and while it’s only been a couple of days I
have noticed more oil on my face. Any tips to dry this up?
Thanks,
Tim

Treatment Update - Dr. Nase

Thursday, July 1st, 2004

I found this post on the rosacea list. Interesting info.

There are several new
prescription-based cleansers and topicals specifically designed for
seborrheic dermatitis.

There are several goals to these treatments:

1. Remove superficial crusting and flakes
2. Clear pores of hardened sebum, follicular hyperkeratinization,
and cellular debris
3. Treat yeast and bacteria within the pore
4. Decrease erythema (facial redness) caused by seborrheic
dermatitis
5. Decrease extremely sensitive skin that is a common byproduct of
