report after one application of active UMF16+ manuka honey.

hey all,

i thought you lot might find this interesting. its my first use of
this in self-treatment.

17 July 2003

I started with a mix of approximately 90% manuka honey and 10% warm
water. I smeared this all over my cheeky, forehead, temples and
eyebrow (t-zone). the amount of honey I started with was about 1
level tea-spoon.

I left the manuka honey on for approximately 3 hours (probably 3
hours 10 mins). during this time I didn’t feel any tingling or
burning sensation. the manuka honey more or less simply sat on top
of my skin without really being absorbed as would a cream or
lotion. some of it ran down my face, but actually very little.

to wash the honey off I used slightly warm filtered tap water. I
noticed that the redness was increased at the time just prior to
washing the honey off and I believe I noticed the extra redness
starting to dissipate almost immediately after removing the honey.

I then applied apple cider vinegar w/mother only to my scalp, as
normal, and went to bed.

here’s the interesting bit…

in the morning, before getting out of bed I noticed that my face in
general felt much better, in fact better than its felt in a very,
very long time.

there was no sign of flaking (that isn’t unusual for me) but my skin
tone all over my face was markedly improved.

I showered as usual, shampood with nizoral. after the shower the
redness was a little more pronounced (as is usual for most people I
believe) then applied my normal dose of nizoral. I can say that the
extra redness from the shower also dissipated very quickly, quicker
than usual in fact.

also worth noting is that I suffer with dry skin. this is a common
factor in my family and was something I suffered with prior to being
diagnosed with sebderm. after washing the honey off in the evening,
my skin didn’t feel anywhere near as dry as I have experienced in
the past. also when I woke up in the morning I can honestly say
that I think my skin felt totally `normal’. it wasn’t tight at all,
which is a feeling I associate under normal condition with washing
and NOT applying any moisturiser right after washing.

as of now, after the morning shower at 8:15, an application of
nizoral at 8:30 (its now 10:30am) my face is feeling dry and a
little tight. I can only associate this with the morning shower and
the nizoral cream. I have noticed that the nizoral cream does have
a slight drying effect. and am considering applying a small amount
of aveeno cream to ease the drying effect, I don’t believe leaving
my skin in need of moisturising to be a wise move.

all in all, I can only report positively about active manuka honey
in my case. I have noticed a definite over all improvement in skin
tone and texture, and a greater improvement in nizoral’s
effectiveness in relation to the redness after just one 3 hour
application. I haven’t experienced ANY bad effects whatsoever.

bearing in mind my initial reaction to acv application to my face,
and the inability of my face to deal with acidity I believe at this
time that active manuka honey will be a great treatment for me. I’m
looking forward to my next few applications. in fact, due to the
fact that I cannot apply it on saturday night as I’m out to a music
festival for the weekend, I’m thinking about applying some more
tonight.
