Retin A
I have been reading info on possible causes of SebDerm. I came across
an article that talked about some people developing SD as a side
effect from using Retin A for acne. I used Retin A for 4 years with
hardly any results, yet my Dr. urged me to continue my use of this
product. After 4 years I finally gave up and discontinued using it.
My face cleared up and I was extremly happy for a few months, untill
I had my first case of SD. Now that I have my SD under control (took
me a year to figure out I was allregic to almost anything that
touched my face) but I still get the flakes. This is all due to the
thinning of my skin from the years on Retin A. Has anyone used Retin
A in the past?

I did! Years and years ago I used it, and I have
often wondered the same thing! A really long time ago
I asked this question of the group and got no answer,
but I think this would be interesting to know.

How long did you use it? I am sure there is a link between the two…

I used it on & off for a couple of years. Wouldn’t
that be crazy if a number of us actually used it in
the past?

I just wish I had known earlier…My doctor kept me on it for 4 years, even though there wasent any improvement in my acne, I am glad I stopped on my own, it could be alot worse now…I just hope some other people come foward about this. I know its not the main cause of SD, and I am sure there are alot of people out there that got SD from other factors, but it would be nice to know the root of some of the cases…

yrs prior until the seb derm even existed on my face

Thanks for the reply Tony. It took me about 4 months before I noticed sebderm after I stopped using the Retin A. Maybe its different for other people, or maybe it was something else for you…

I haven’t used Retin A specifically, but different, milder versions
of it…Avita I think is the name. I’ve had seb derm before I
started using it, but i had a major flare in February. I wasn’t
using it all that much at the time, but I may have tried it when I
flared. Now I’ve been having a more of a problem all around.
Whether it is all related or not I don’t know. I’m inclined to think
my problem wasn’t directly related since I’ve had skin issues for a
long time.
