Barrier Therapeutics, Inc. Begins Phase III Trials For Seboride(TM)

- Anti-Fungal/Steroid Combination is Being Studied in Seborrheic
Dermatitis -

PRINCETON, N.J., April 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Barrier
Therapeutics, Inc., an emerging specialty pharmaceutical company in
the field of dermatology, announced today that enrollment has begun
in the Phase III clinical trials for Seboride(TM) in both Europe and
the United States. Seboride(TM), a combination topical agent
containing ketoconazole, an antifungal agent, and desonide, a
steroid, is a patented gel formulation. The trials have been designed
to show that Seboride(TM) is safe and effective in seborrheic
dermatitis with a treatment regimen of only once a day for two weeks.
The trials will enroll approximately 840 patients.

"Seboride, if and when it is approved, would be the first topical
prescription product for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis that
combines fast onset of action with long lasting symptom suppression,
using a once daily application for only two weeks," commented Geert
Cauwenbergh, Ph.D., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of
Barrier. "The more moderate treatment regimen of once a day for two
weeks provides an important patient advantage in the treatment of
this common skin disorder."

Each of the two blinded placebo controlled Phase III trials will
enroll 420 patients in approximately 18 centers in the United States,
and in Belgium and Poland. The trials will consist of four arms
comparing Seboride(TM) to ketoconazole as a single agent, to desonide
as a single agent, and to a placebo gel. Patients between the ages of
18 and 65 will be treated for two weeks and will be evaluated for
efficacy two weeks following the end of treatment.

  1. Blair Blair Says:

Tim–no need to wait for this product to hit the shelves–just mix some of
your desowen lotion in with the nizoral–I would start about 3 parts nizoral
to one part desowen–don’t premix, but rather just in your hand in the
shower mix them together and let it sit for about five minutes on your
scalp–use for 2-3 days at a time max.

I have done this in the past and it helps.

BTW, I have been using the Apple Cider Vinegar and itis really helping with
the flakiness and redness–f the shelf brand at the supermarket, Heinz ACV
for about $2 a bottle. Only seem to need the treatment once a week and
staying clear (no redness, no flaking) for about a week or so afterwards.

If only I knew about this years ago! still taking the acidipholus as well
which I feel is equally important to success.
