New

Hi, I just joined the group.

I’ve had SD on my scalp for as long as I can remember. My mom tells
me it started with cradle cap when I was a baby, and I had it all
through childhood. It took until I was about 19 or 20 to finally find
out that what I needed was tar shampoo. As long as I keep using
something like T-Gel or the Walgreens equivelant, my scalp is much
better, though I still sometimes get the itch and have a lot of
flakes. Question: Does having SD make the scalp more sensitive? I
have a very sensitive scalp, but don’t know if SD has anything to do
with it.

Is SD related to eczema? I think I have either eczema or another kind
of dermatitis on my hands and back.

    Hi there,
I just found this group after finding out I had seb derm last week.
I was wondering what cleansers and moisturizers I should be using?
The dermatologist gave me some antifungal cream which I believe has
    made it worse…….anyone recommend anything?
    Thanks,
    Roxanne

    Hi Roxanne,

I’ve just written a huge post on my experiences with cleansers &
moisturisers etc… hopefully you’ll find it interesting. The subject
    is ‘Me & My SebDerm’.

Just out of interest, what was the cream your derm gave you? My derm
gave me daktacort which made my skin worse than it’s ever been.

    All the best.

My doctor gave me ketoconazole 2%…..which made my occasional
redness turn excessive. I called the derm a few days ago and he told
me to just use hydrocortizone…..that it was safe to use
everyday….I’ve heard otherwise though. I found a cream
called "Natural Harmony", near the hydrocortizone, which is steroid
free and has Tea Tree Oil in it. So far it’s working great. I also
use the Proactiv line which is an excellent exfoliater for the
flakiness, and has salycilic acid in it. I just ordered the Cutanix
wash and lotion…..we’ll see how that goes. The derm told me to use
the T-Gel shampoo….and let it suds over my face……does that
work? I don’t have any scalp problems….so I’m not too sure about
it. I’m afraid to use it on my highlights to tell you the
truth….it says it can tinge your hair. Anyone had that problem?
