Tanning
Has anyone noticed a difference when tanning? My sebderm cleared up
completely when I went to Arizona, and was still clear 2 weeks after
when I came home. I think it has something to do with being out in
the sun. I know its bad, but I am thinking about going to the tanners
just once and see if this helps. Any comments?
Also I just picked up some Neutrogena T-Gel. Who has had a good
outcome with this stuff? Thanks all.

I live in AZ! I have experimented with sun, and I
hear it works for some people, but for me it results
in a remission of a day or two, followed by an
exacerbation. Sometimes if I just get a little,
though, it seems to help with the irritation, though I
still flake.

my problem is really just the redness. people are constantly asking me if i’ve
been in the sun. and i live in the uk…go figure heh! still i started the
green tea thing again to have another blast with that. if i can get this
redness under some sort of control i’ll be totally fine. i just can’t seem to
crack it…
as for t-gel this stuff is actually pretty good. cocois is also pretty good for
hairline bits too. if the t-gel works for you try the cocois as well. strange
thing is that this is coal tar based product but when i tried alphosyl on my
face it did the complete opposite and caused a flare up.

Thanks for the feedback. I never really have problems with redness, its just the flakes. I am worried about the T-Gel because the redness comes about when I use harsh products. I literally had to throw out everything I used to clense with. Now all I can use is herbal essence shampoo because it is all natural, and I havent see any redness in 6 months. I cant even wash my face with anything anymore. I still need to find something to do about the flakes. Its only bad in the morning, and when I take a shower they are gone…

Well for me it was all the products I was using. I kept thinking I could wash all of it away, but this made problems worse. Then one day I just thought to myself why not stop using everything and see if this helps. My face cleared up completely for months. No redness or flakes. It was the best 2 months of my life. But then after awhile the flakes started coming back, but not bad. I think it had something to do with the weather. I live in Michigan, and our winters are harsh. But the cold weather is going away, so I hope to notice a difference. Have you ever tried just cutting everything out? It was hard to do, but it was well worth it. I also saved alot of money by not going to Rite Aid every week and buying more products…

i haven’t just tried cutting everything out yet. i’m not sure that would be a
good idea for me just yet. i’ve *always* needed to moisturise since before i
can remember, 12-13 maybe! so i couldn’t ever cut everything out.
this week i have, however, stopped using any steroid creams or any other derm
treatment and am just concentrating on controlling the redness with the green
tea wash. and dare i say it, this time it seems to be working much better. am
gonna carry on for a few weeks with this approach and see how things go.
i’m sure, after listening to some folks on this list, that i have a very mild
case of sebderm. i suffer dry and tight skin on occasions but nothing like
having to de-flake every morning. the main problem i have is looking like a mr
tomato head most of the time!!
heh! it must be getting better i’m joking about it now!

Thats great that you can joke around about it. I am still not at that point yet. I am still at the “why does this have to happen to me” stage. I get real depressed somedays. Today is bad because it was a sunny day out yesterday, so I would figure I would try out my tanning theory. I was only out there for an hour and my face dried out completely, and it is still bright red. This sucks because I get my hopes up thinking I found a “cure” for me, and then it backfired.

Thanks alot, that will seriously help me. I guess it is because I hear stuff like that from people that do not have the same problems, so they dont know where I am coming from. I hope someone else will read this and maybe change their attitude about it just like I did.
