Body Dysmorphic Disorder
Has anyone heard of this? I saw a show on Discovery about it the
other day and have been doing research since. Has anyone ever told
you they have never seen a problem with your skin, while in your mind
your thinking they are blind for not seeing anything? This happens to
me all the time when I get breakouts. When I tell people about it,
they just laugh and think I am crazy for it. Maybe its their way of
being nice and trying to tell me not to worry about it. Let me know
if any of you have had this same experience. Thanks all.

People say that to me all the time, but that’s because
I completely de-flake before I leave the house, EVERY
TIME. I won’t drive through a drive-through car wash
without a complete de-flaking. I know that the flakes
aren’t in our heads, however — I wake up some
mornings literally looking like a molting lizard! And
I have noticed flakes on a (very) few other people
too. As a matter of fact, I work with a girl who I
predict will have a full-blown case of sebderm within
the next few years.
In my opinion, people are just being nice and
pretending not to notice, unless your case is
unbelievably mild.

None of us have BDD if we go to a doctor, get evaluated, and get an rx to
try to fix the problem–if the doctor can see it, than it is for sure a real
condition.
I think we probably overanalyze our appearance and think it looks worse than
it may to others, but that is still not BDD–BDD is like you are making
things up about your appearance that no one else can see. If you need
validation, go to a derm, they for sure won’t say you don’t have a problem
just to be nice, but will give you at least a more objective opinion than
your friends and family.

Yeah, that is true. I dont ever let anyone see me in the morning
before I take a shower and deflake. It sucks in some situations, like
last Sunday morning I woke up in a strange house with 20 other people
passed out on the floor. Just something I have to deal with. I dont
think I have BDD, but I just thought I would post some information on
it in case anyone else experienced it. Thanks all.

Sounds like it must have been quite a party
Doesn’t that suck, though? It prevents me from
camping, something I used to love to do. I don’t want
anyone to see me like that, and even if it were just
my husband who would see me, I am physically
uncomfortable without the ability to wash my face.

I am the same exact way. I used to love camping as well, but now I have to make up excuses when all my friends ask me to go. I usually just stay home. Just cant wait to find something that works so I can camp again…
