intro…
Hello All,
I’m glade to have found a group like this and to share my story with
new friends. A month ago I was diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis,
but after doing research on this disease, I wonder if I really have
it. I was hoping I could get some feedback and your ideas. I have had
some bad experienc with several medical doctors who have misdianosed
me in the past and have given me medications for things I didn’t even
have. So now I research as much as I can before I take any
medications they give me.
I don’t know about where you live, but in my hometown, the doctors
are always in a hurry to get you in and out of the office as fast as
they can. I don’t think any doctor can properly help a person without
asking questions and giving you only 5 minutes of his/her time.
Anyway, back to sebderm…My skin is very dry…legs, face and
arms. I have dandruff but not to the extent that I can’t wear black.
I don’t have oily skin or scalp. No flaking or scales, no pink or red
areas. I get a mild rash but it’s not oozing or oily and the rash is
not raised. The heels of my feet are really dry. I don’t suffer from
acne breakouts but my entire body itches, my scalp itches and I have
SEVERE hair loss. My hair falls out all day long but when I wash it,
it falls out by the handful.
For the past year the doctors have been putting me through every
kind of test known to man. They had me do an Aides test, complete
blood work, Compliments test (this test shows if your body is/not
absorbing vitamins), a complete tyroid test, cat scans, exrays, even
a complete dental exray…every test came back good.
They finally did a test to check my hormone levels and found that my
progesterone was too low, got that taken care of but it did nothing
for my hair loss, itchy, dry skin. They are completely lost at this
point…so they say it’s sebderm. I also have this ugly feeling of
being sleepy all the time even after getting a good night’s sleep…I
am always sleepy. My throat is also swollen. I hope you can give some
some input and if it is sebderm what can I use to control it. They
gave me some Nizoral for the hair loss but hasn’t done a thing. Do
you think I was misdiagosed again?

If they say you have seb derm on your arms and legs then that is probably
wrong as seb derm mainly apears on face, scalp, ears, and chest, the areas
where you have the most sebaceuos glands,, the arms and legs have very few
sebaceuos glands compared so it is more likley a form of eczema or psoriasis
at least on legs and arms, or some type of contact/allergic dermatitis
dermatitis.
It is strange that you say you are itching all over but you don’t have
flakes or redness on face and scalp–the redness, flaking, oiliness are all
hallmark symptoms of seb derm so if you don’t have those things then it may
be something else.
Your hairloss sounds like a Telogen effluvium but all of your tests came
back OK so this seems strange–have you checked out www.hairlosshelp.com or
www.keratin.com–these are both excellent websites for discussing all sorts
of hairloss issues.

hello my friend,
and welcome to the group. Psoriasis, which I have, does some of the
symptoms that you just described. It may cause hair loss, itchy, dryness of
legs and arms, heels of the foot. Apart of being sleepy all the time, I
myself am from the mediteranean, Originally Greek. Doctors once diagnosed
me when i was young with a condition called "Thalasemia" it mostly affects
people of mediteranean (South European) decent. Basically you feel tired
all the time, kind of like anemia. So i would check out those symptoms
first. My opinion anyways. Good luck
Tony
P.S If i am good and extremely lucky the devil will give me a position in
hell to torture the shit out of Dermatologists when they die
