intro.

hmm…never thought to look for a relevant list that could help. glad i did!

hi all,

just thought i’d drop you a line to introduce myself. my name is james, i’m 26
living in the uk. i have just (about 2 months ago) been for my first
consultation with a dermatologist regarding sebderm. seems to have come on last
year for the first time, and now its fairly well established that its not going
anywhere for a while!

i have spent a little time going through the archives of this list, have found
some new things to try, thanks. i must say that i have read a number of
accounts of other peoples condition and luckily it seems that mine is a mild
case (at least at the moment). the main problem i have with this is redness of
the face, rather than serious scaling anywhere. it is very noticeable but on

the whole it does seem to fade through the day. sometimes very quickly, other
times it may hang around. i guess its just following natural skin cycles. one
thing i have picked up on is the variance in what works for different people and
the length of time it works for. i guess its a try it and see approach that is
the only way to work it out.

for a little history i have tried the following things so far (as recommended by
the doc):

for general moisturising i have been using E45 which is ok, but is a little
‘thin’ with regard to the way it seems to work for me, seems to evaporate
itself!! i have always had dry skin localised on my face and i used to find
astral worked really well as it was greasier without being as greasy as epaderm.

i think i’ve also realised recently that really good moisturising is actually
the main key to dealing with the overall sensitivity to reddening. i would be
really interested to hear from anyone else thats had similar thoughts.

i have been interested in some of the threads regarding using shampoos as face
cleansers as well. seems that the root of the problem is generally regarded as
too much sebum being produces so i guess washing is very important to keep this
condition in check. any advice on cleaners would be great. i used to use a
Neutrogena soap free sensitive face wash, but the dermatologist said that using
just water was preferable.

anyway, thats enough of my ramblings! look forward to hearing from you all and
thanks for setting up this community. much appreciated.

cheers,
