sebderm and antidepressives

Saturday, January 24th, 2004

Hi!

I´ve been a member of this group a while now but haven´t wrote any messages
myself until now. I was diagnozised with sebderm for 1 1/2 years ago. I
wonder if there is anyone else who is/has been on antidepressive medicine
because of this skin disorder we all have? My derm says i´ve only have a
mild form of this ezema but it´s still hard to cope with on a daily basis,
even after so long time has gone since i´ve got it. I´m trying not to think
so much about it, but it´s hard to not doing it. No one who don´t have any
skin disease can´t understand how it really is having to struggle with this
shit, because thats what it is! And it doesn´t make me feel any better
knowing that there are more severe diseases one can get. Anyway this group
is a very good support and i will keep on reading what´s posted forward.

Elidel!

Friday, January 23rd, 2004

I am very excited about the prescription lotion Elidel - I’ve been on it for 5
days and I am totally clear. I went to my dermatologist last week and she
prescribed it - I pretty much told her that I wanted to totally stop using
topicals with steroids in them. I was still having to use them in extreme
cases in which nothing else would help. She told me that Elidel had
recently become available. It contains NO steroids and does not damage
your skin - you can use it without worry. Your skin also does not become
‘addicted’ to steroids, which my skin was. It was taking more and more
steriod topical to see any results. The only side effects associated with this
medicine include temporary skin burning sensations or headaches, neither
of which I have experienced.

This really works - like I’ve mentioned before, humidity wrecks havoc on my
face and this week, while using it, I was out in 100% humidity and my face
was fine! No rash, no itching - nothing!

Seb Derm. and Laser Hair Removal

Thursday, January 22nd, 2004

Hey, I was wondering if anyone in here has had Laser Hair Removal?
This topic was started in another post wayyy back. I was thinking
about having the procedure done, but was wondering if it’s even
possible with my Seb derm. One of the areas in which I was thinking
of having it done was on my face, which is where my Seb Derm is. I
dunno…I heard some lasers are actually good for Seb derm. I’m sure
I will be consulting with many many doctors, but I just wanted to get
some feedback from the board.

Anybody in here found the secret to working out and keeping the inflammation

the gym religiously until i was 24, plus working in construction outside.
Now if i were to do one rep of free weights, i become inflammed. Any
suggestions

Loprox cream and Elidel

Tuesday, January 13th, 2004

Hello, this is my first post on this board i have had SD for about 5
years and have found that a combination of Elidel cream and Nizoral
cream along with gentle skin care products has improved my SD about
80%. My question is recently i read about Loprox 1% cream and some
studies show that is somewhat more effective than Nizoral. Have any of
you tried this cream if so what were your results? Also can you layer
the Loprox over the Elidel. I also read that the medication Metrocream
showed significant improvement in people with SD the source is The
Journal of Family Practice, have not been able to find more information
over the Internet about this medication and how it is beneficial to
SD.Thanks in advance.

Question about DRL?

Sunday, January 11th, 2004

Hi,

I received my free sample of DRL from Cutanix in the summer but my
seb derm was not so terrible so I did not use it. Now that winter has
arrived, my seb derm has worsened. Is it ok to use the DRL now after
a few months? I just want to know how long the shelf life of DRL is?
Thanks.

Water softener

Sunday, January 11th, 2004

There has been some questions about how water softeners work. Here is
a brief summary.

Softeners contain porous resin beads that will hold on to either
sodium, magnesium or calcium ions (atoms missing an electron or two),
whichever are most plentiful.

Magnesium and calcium ions are the part of hard water that reacts with
soap to form insoluble stearate scum that sticks to everything. Soap
starts out as sodium or potassium stearate which is soluble in water.
in effect, the calcium and sodium trade places in the stearate just
as they do in the softener resin, except that with soap, this
reaction is not easily reversable.

But it is a reversable reaction in the softener beads. Once the beads

Shower filter

Saturday, January 10th, 2004

I use a shower filter that removes chlorine and
that has improved my skin alot…less break outs, less redness.
My next step is to install a water softener..it makes
total sense to me that hard water is bad for sensitive
skin.
