Borage Oil Question
Ralph (or anyone else taking borage oil),
Maybe this is already in the archives somewhere, but how many
milligrams of borage oil do you recommend taking each day?
Thanks,
Tim

Tim,
I started off at 2000 mgs a day of a borage oil brand (vitamin shoppe) that
was 20% GLA–some brands go up to 24% GLA.
You may even want to consider doubling that dose initially for the first two
weeks or so–it was just that 2000mgs a day worked for me. Over time, I cut
down to 1000mgs a day and currently I am only taking about 1000mgs every
other or every third day and my inflammation is still at bay for the most
part–worlds better than it was before I started the borage oil.
Have you tried the finasteride yet (Proscar or Propecia)–I think this may
have hepled me somewhat as well by inhibiting the DHT, but I tend to beleive
the borage oil helped more.
Take care,
RJ

Out of interest, has anyone noticed any mood changes taking
Borage/Starflower oil?
Maybe it’s all in my mind, but over the last few weeks my mood has been
unusually positive. I know that some women take it for PMT (and yes, I am
male!).
Just wondering ….

Oh, clear skin and a better mood?
I might have to check that out …

I guess came in late on this discussion.
Any negative side effectives?
R.

No, not that I’ve noticed.
I’ve been taking Borage now for about 6 weeks.
Unfortunately I wasn’t particularly brilliant for the first 3 or 4 weeks in
taking it consistently, so it’s only recently (the last 2 or 3 weeks) that I
have been taking it properly (4 x 500mg capsules a day).
It’s just that I am pretty darn sure that my general mood in the last 2 or 3
weeks has really lifted. I know women take this for PMT to try and ease
their moods, so I wondered if it could be related in some way. Perhaps the
whole seb derm is linked in some way with a hormonal imbalance, for some
people at least, and the GLA is helping more than just the oily skin.
Was just wonderin’ whether others have seen the same thing, or if I’m a
special case :o)

I haven’t tried borage but I have been using Linda Sy
moisturizing oil the last couple of days and it’s
working very well, it’s jojoba and safflower oil. I’ve
also been hearing some good things about emu oil so I
may try that next. Sorry I didn’t answer your question
about the borage oil.

I’ve been taking it for around 2 months now, and not had any breakout.

Mark,
Do you feel that is helping with seb derm inflammation at all–I would think
you would notice a difference after a few months if it was working.
As far as flakiness is concerned, it has not really helped with that but it
clearly has helped me to control the redness and inflammation–I hardly get
that anymore since starting the borage oil at 2000mgs a day and now down to
1000mgs every other day.
I never brokeout from it either–if I could find a decent cure for the
flakes, I would be doing pretty good–jojoba oil on a wet face seems to be
working OK for the past few weeks but I have to put it on at least twice a
day or I dry up again–my fear in overusing is that I will most likely
eventually start reacting to it negatively but so far so good.

Hmmm, I’m not too sure. It certainly isn’t a vast improvement, but there is
some improvement I think. My face isn’t the oil slick it used to be! :o)
I also wondered whether it had improved my mood somewhat, but that comes and
goes :o)
I’ll try it for another month and see how I feel then.

Yes, for me anyway. I take it and Primrose oil daily to get my Omega oils.
I also use jojoba topically. Does that help?
