Hi,
is there an FAQ list that I should read?
Ta
D
She thinks I have rosacea because I have flush easily and have
pimples. I knew this is what she would think because she is always
commenting on the fact my face is red. But this redness started when
I started using retin-A 6 years ago.
She also thinks the scaly flakes around my ears and forhead is exzema.
She didn’t comment on the places around my nose and lips.
She refered me to a dermatologist once she realized I have had a long
history of skin troubles.
So, that’s who I am going to call next.
I made an appt to see my PCP last month to discuss my skin. But when
the day came, I got pink eye and she was totally focused on this.
She did mention I should buy lotrimin and put this on my skin and
wash my face with Selson Blue (God, that stings and turns my face
red!). Lotrimin helps a little.
So, tomorrow I see her again and my face has gotten worse since she
last saw me. I hope she gives me a referal to a dermatologist. I
have created a list of all the various treatments given to me by
doctors (I am on therapy approach #8) in the hopes she will realize
it’s not so simple as a "buy some lotrimin and selson blue" and see
me in the morning case.
God I am nervous!
I have come across an article (American Family Physicians) that does
mention accutane can be prescribed for sebderm sufferers.
Here is the web location:
This is for those of you who have dermatologists who refuse to even
entertain the idea of prescribing accutane for you sebderm.
PS….I don’t think it is wise to go on long-term, low dosage
accutane therapy. It is a serious drug. And I think if your derm
knows this is what you want to do, they’ll turn you down outright.
I have being a lot of research on sebderm and acne and I always come
accross the same theme relating back to testosterone.
Sebderm and acne in person’s skin is more than likely because their
skin is HYPER SENSITIVE to normal levels of androgens in their body.
A lot has to do with having a high number of receptor cells in the
skin and the 5 alpha reductase enzyme in the skin that converts
testosterone to DHT (dyhydrotestosterone). This causes increased
sebum production. DHT can be attributed acne, hair loss hirsutism and
sebderm.
OR - (in the case of SOME women) their ovaries and/or adrenals
produce too much testosterone and they may have something called PCOS
(poly cystic ovarian syndrome). There are a host of other symptoms a
woman may experience if she has this problem.

Hi Everyone:
RE: Accutane.
I am thinking about asking my GP or dermatologist to prescribe
accutane for my acne and sebderm, which has gotten a lot worse on the
last 4 months. I am currently taking Diane-35 (a birth control pill
with the anti-androgen cyperatone acetate)which is precribed to women
to control seborrhea and acne - AND - retin-A .1% once a day (which
causes redness and my GP often comments on). Even on these medicines
I still have acne and seborrhea.
Do you think they will let me take the accutane? I have already
taken it twice (8 years ago) and it has helped in the severity of my
acne overall.

I got my new samples from Dr Pilcher last week for my brother
and myself.A couple of weeks ago someone wrote into the rosacea
forum about how their face stayed calm after a few hours in the
sun with the DRL on.So for the first time in months I was able to
put it to the test yesterday, because up until yesterday its been
pissing rain here in Ireland. It was a beautiful hot day so I lashed
on the DRL all over my face. The whole day my face stayed calm and
no redness.Usually I would go tomatoe red if I was more than 15
minutes in the sun.

Dr Brian Pilcher from Cutanix posted on the Rosacea forum
last week that they are launching DRL today.

You have a point about not scrubbing off the flakes for a few days.
This weekend I washed my face and did not do the usual sloughing off
with an oxy pad. By Sunday, my face was literally "snowing." But
come monday, when I did exfoliate the flakes on my face, my skin
looked a little better and healed.
Letting your skin build up for a few days allows the inflamed skin to
heal a bit.
