Oral Anti-fungal Update

Thursday, August 21st, 2003

To anyone that is interested, I have been taking 150mg of Diflucan daily for
the past five days but will not finish the last nine days of this course for
a few reasons:

1. I am scared shitless that this stuff will screw up my liver and as much
as I cannot stand the seb derm, liver complications or failure is just not
worth it–I am also beginning to get some of the side effects like the runs
and headaches and minor pains in my abdomen

2. I have not noticed any changes to my seb derm, good or bad after five
days–I have not gotten any new flares, but my exisiting ones do not seem to
be responding either–I realize that I may see some benefit of taking the
full two week course but I am not going to do it

3. As it is been theorized, but not neccessarily proven, that the yeast

Daktakort

Sunday, August 17th, 2003

Just another post quickly.
My derm has prescribed Daktakort (presume you all know but an
anitfungal cream with mild steroid). I was dubious about using it as
the term steroid is enough to turn a rosacean bright red from fear
alone. It also says on the box don’t use on face unless doctor has
instructed you to do so.
Anyhow my skin has been so inflamed that I put a tiny tiny bit on one
side of my face and oh my goodness the relief. The little square
feels smooth, no flakes or scale, reduced redness and no itching.
The problem is I am so scared of using this cream all over my face.
Has anyone else found it to help?
Does anyone know of an antifungal that doesnt contain steroid?

dry skin/diet

Saturday, August 16th, 2003

I am new to this group and have had a brief look over past postings,
but obviously haven’t been through the whole archive yet so if the
topic I mention has already been covered please forgive me.
I have rosacea but also think (as does my derm) that I have seb derm.
The problem is though I don’t have the usual large pores etc, I have
tiny pores (you can’t see them) and my skin is exceptionally dry but
with an overall shiny look. I am covered in flakes, mainly down the
side of my cheeks and a little on my forehead and nasolabial area.
The forehead seems to indicate definate seb derm as it pretty much a
text book case but does anyone else suffer from seb derm appearing on
sides of the cheeks? As I said my skin is also incredibly dry ie
whenI smile I look 99 instead of in my twenties.
I also notice that diet improve it. ie if I don’t eat, relax and
exercise it improves.
I have tried antibiotics but I think it makes it worse?!.

New to the group

Friday, August 15th, 2003

Hey Everyone,

I am so glad I found this group. I have had seborrheic dermatitis
since August of last year. I started graduate school last year, and
I don’t know if the stress of that made my seborrheic dermatitis
occur, but when it did occur, it was bad. I went to the doctor and
he prescribed me Nizoral shampoo. That worked. I used it up and
then began using over the counter products (Head and Shoulders,
Neutrogena T Gel, etc.). I now have a variety of dandruff/seborrheic
dermatitis shampoos that I use. I am having a flare right now. I
think a lot of mine has to do with hormones. I recently bought some
non-prescription Nizoral and was glad to find out that it works
really well.

Anyway, if anyone has any advice, tips, personal stories, etc., to

Oily skin

Thursday, August 14th, 2003

Has anyone in the group with oily skin actully managed to reduce or
got rid of the problem completely, using Accutane or any other form
of medication/method? And most important - how did it effect your seb
derm?

Hi,
I posted this on the rosacea group site and thought I would post it
here too. It is particuarly helpful and not too dificult to
understand. Go to Seb derm via the index and check out how many other
diseases look similar to seb derm then do the same for rosacea. No
wonder people might be getting it wrong.

Would you give us the URL to that Web site that you
