what´s your opinion about sunbathe?

Sunday, August 31st, 2003

Hi everyone,

I’m still using Essex and it works just fine. Now I wonder what experience
you have with the sun? Does it make the skin worse or do you think it makes
it better? Everyone who have noticed someting, please tell me about it.
I also wonder if anyone of you have noticed any reaction after eating
strawberries? And finally, how many of you can eat icecream without any side
effects?

tea tree oil guinea pig

Sunday, August 31st, 2003

I have been using tea tree oil soap on my face as well
as pure tea tree oil. I have been doing it for a few
days now, and it seems to be improving things, though
not dramatically. It sure feels good, though! It
makes my skin tingle, and the soap smells great. The
oil (which is not at all oily) seems to make my skin
less oily, and it keeps that squeaky-clean-just-washed
feeling for a longer time. So far, though, I still
have flakes and an overall generalized pinkness, but
no severely irritated areas like I usually do (mainly
sides of mouth). I will be sure to post to the list
any results as time goes on — good, bad, or neutral :)
(I know I posted a similar request once before - but I

I apologize if someone already posted this article but it seems interesting
and it seems like some of it may be covered by insurance–anybody know any
more about this?
Thanks,

Article on Free Fatt Acids/Lipids and AD

Saturday, August 30th, 2003

This looks interesting as well but it is pretty technical but it states that
a a deficiency in D 6 desaturase activity leads to pathogenesis of atopic
dermatitis–can anyone interpret this? Is it possible to increase the
activity of D 6 desaturase?

Very Interesting Article on Dandruff/SD

Friday, August 29th, 2003

I came across this article and it seems very interesting upon first read
concerning the "cause" of dandruff and possibly seb derm as well. The jist
of it is that there are different types of the Malassezia and this scientist
has discovered exactly which ones "cause" dandruff and that the M furfur
fungus is actually not the culprit as previoulsy thought. Not sure how to
take this as the study was done by Proctor and Gamle who I assume are
planning new products around these findings.

Scientists Pinpoint Cause of Dandruff

PARIS, July 1 — Data presented today by The Procter & Gamble Company
research scientists at the 20th World Congress of Dermatology (WCD) suggests
that dandruff does not result from an overabundance of Malassezia furfur (M.
furfur) fungus as previously thought. Rather, common dandruff, the scalp

Seb derm research

Friday, August 29th, 2003

This web site provides free access to Medline, a service that indexes
medical research studies. I searced for seborrheic dermatitis and
received a few hundred hits. Some of them were very interesting
studies (use of honey to treat seb derm, various homeopathic
remedies, etc.) Unfortunately, not all the abstracts are available
online.

tea tree oil

Has anyone tried tea tree oil for their sebderm?

Gave DRL Another Try

Tuesday, August 26th, 2003

Okay, I tried DRL again over the holiday on the sides
of my mouth, definitely my worst sebderm area. The
AWESOME news is that it seems to be helping the
sebderm, and really reducing irritation and redness.
The BAD news (isn’t there always some of that?) is
that it definitely gave me three zits, and I am NOT
prone to breakouts. Brian, do you think it could be
the mineral oil? Have you seen this with others? And
what about losing effectiveness — does it seem to
keep working pretty well, unlike ketoconazole and
selsun? When I tried those two, I could have sworn I
was cured for three weeks…then unfortunately had to
deal with the backlashes.

Hi
Is there any chance of getting this in the UK ?or have we got to wait
3 years or more like everything else.

the future

Friday, August 22nd, 2003

does drl loose its effectiveness? My skin sucks right now, i don’t
use a lot on it, i rarely use steroid like once or twice a week but
try not to. My doctor refuses to prescribe anything other than 2%
hydrocortisone so i might try to see a dermatologist, this is hard as
an 18 year old, however i’m sure its difficult at all ages; i’ll be
going uni soon. On a lighter note does anyone know of any research or
anything going on that means there might be some kinda cure in the
near future ?
