Sun protection

Thursday, June 19th, 2003

Hi,

Does anyone have any tips for sun exposure and seb derm? I’m not a
particluarly fair skinned person and tan well. Can the sun help the
condition? Also can salt water help?
I presume i’ll need to apply some sun cream to my face but don’t want
to irritate the infected areas with the cream….does anyone know of
a good sun cream?

Thanks

IPL Therapy

Saturday, June 14th, 2003

Has anyone tried IPL or any other cosmetic
surgery-type procedures for sebderm? Laser
resurfacing? Hair Removal? I would like to try one
of these but can’t seem to find much on the subject.
I just called a highly-regarded derm’s office today
and got a really snotty response from a nurse letting
me know that there is no cure for sebhorreic
dermatitis (like she needed to tell ME this) and that
no doctor can reduce pore size, etc. She had never
heard of IPL. Any info would be appreciated.

have tried it.

something promising!

Wednesday, June 11th, 2003

Hi Everyone,

I was just watching my local 11pm news (NBC Boston)and they always
have a segment on new health technologies. Anyways tonight was this
special laser that is starting to be used on people with acne.
Apparently it may become a great alternative to accutane. I guess
the laser treatments actually shrink sebaceous glands remarkably
enough to halt oiliness/acne for around 6 mths. This really appeals
to me because I have been to dermatologists and when I ask about
accutane for my skin they shoot it down very quickly (I have no acne
at all just oily skin with SD) I would think that the shrinking of
oil glands would be able to help our condition. Just something to
look into!

Vitamins

Sunday, June 8th, 2003

was wondering if anybody had noticed positive or negative effects on
their sebderm for taking vitamins. if so what did you take. I read
that if you are defficient in B8 i think it was, you can get sebderm,
so does taking more of that make the condition less severe if you
already have it ?? yOuR thoughts please :),

The SAL-3 soap by SulfurSoap.com works well.

They have two web sites.

one site is www.SAL3.com

I tried both types of soap, and prefer the SAL3

I will be 58 in June. My sebderm just started last year. I used to have
extremely oily skin until after my bone marrow transplant five years ago. Now
my skin is dry, my preciously enlarged pores are now normal size. I
considered my dry skin an extra blessing after having suffered so long with
oily skin. Now I’m having to deal with sebderm plus rosacea. Strange that
I had no problems with either when my skin was oily.
