steroids
I’ve been doing research into steroids and i have learnt that the
paranoia associated with them might be more than necessary. I’ve read
that the only possible way steroids could damage the skin is if they
get inside it, it can not damage the skin from outside, and as long
as you only use steroids which are not potent, like maybe, 1%, they
just aren’t going to penetrate. Still like with any medication it’s
best to use them as little as possible.
On another note, apparently seborreic dermatitis comes and goes with
people, has anyone on here had it, then not had it for ages then had
it again?, just curious,

Sorry Liam, but I just don`t adhere to that.
I was using steroid cream for years for my seb derm, all it`s managed to do is
thin my skin and cause steroid induced rosacea….great.!!
So now I`m faced with very expensive photoderm treatments to try and get my skin
back to normal, which is not working.
No offence.

Sorry i really didn’t mean to offend or anything, may i ask what % of
steroid have people used? I’m just wondering if it will be okay if i
use a 1% steroid cream semi-regularly, like maybe once every two days

Liam,
Steroids are a highly debated topic around here. I believe that the
long-term side effects are documented as thinning of the skin, which of
course no one wants on their face. I don’t have any personal experience
since I found out that I had rosacea 1st. As far a long term remission, I
went about three years with out hearing form the seb derm in my hair or on
my face and then it came back with a vengeance after a really bad rosacea
flare. It took a while, but it id back under control again. What did your
dr say?

Same thing happened to me–I used Desowen for two years, supposedly very
mild steroid, and now have thinner skin, bigger pores and accompanying
permanent redness (rosacea) in certain spots on my face–it does not really
ever change (except when seb derm flares up) so i am thinking it is
permanently damaged.
I am sorry that photoderm is not working for you–are you seeing any
improvements at all as far as redness, texture, pore size–how many
treatments have you done.
I really need to do something about my rosacea as well–I have heard a lot
of postive things about vbeam recently, at least for reducing redness, and
supposedly it is a bit cheaper than photoderm–have you considered this
treatment at all?
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Kevin, Here is a link for a good summary; not referenced tho. But there is
much over the web that says the same. Just google steroid side effects. The
docs try to play them down, but if you dig, you will find.
