Elidel Update
I have been using Elidel since Monday of this week on my face for seb derm
and I do beleive that this is having a postive effect. I am 99% clear as of
today and I was about 70% clear on Monday–I think I was clearing on my own
after a real bad two week breakout in my eyebrows and on forehead so I was
not sure how much was just natural and how much was the Elidel.
However, this morning, after showering, I had a big red spot fleare in one
of my eyebrows that felt like it was going to really get bad and last for
days–I put the Elidel on imediately amd it burned for about 20-30 minutes
and the patch got really red and raw. About two hours later, the whole
thing disappeared and my skin felt and looked perfect–maybe it was just
natural or maybe it was the Elidel–I don’t want to hype the Elidel too much
becasue I have not put it through a real major test yet, but so far, it does
not appear to have downsides to using this stuff.
Like the Protopic, it is a bit greasy and you may not want to put all over
your face during the day but I have been loading this stuff on at night and
my face really does feel great. It does burn a little at first (As did the
Desowen with me and other cortisones) but usually only lasts about 20-30
minutes and then it just doesn’t feel like anything–my skin which is just
so sensitive to any temp change, wind blowing, dust particles, is not
feeling any of these things this week and my face feels sort of anesthisized
which is a real good thing.
I forgot to ask my derm about this, but I was wondering if anyone can
respond to kind of a weird thought I had–instead of putting this stuff
directly on our faces and sores, do you think that putting it on our bodies
somewhere else, say the inside of our arms where the skin is thin and the
veins are close to the surface–would the drug molecules absorb thorugh our
skin and possibly enter our bloodstreams and act in the same inflammatory
ways ( same principle as the transdermal nicotine patches). What made me
think of this is that when i was on the powerful steroid Prednisone for a
back condition (taken orally) my skin cleared 100% in 2 days and lasted for
a month even after stopping the prednisone–the rebound effect however was
unbearable.
Prednisone is one of the most powerful anti-inflammatorys but the drug in
Elidel I think is powerful as well–to me, it just makes sense that the more
we can get this stuff into our system, the better the effects will be and
then obviously we would not need to walk around with oil slicks on our face
and also risk blocking pores and causing acne breakouts–plus there is a lot
of alcohols in Eledil and Protopic which are harsh for rosacea skin as well
which many of us probably have alongside the seb derm. What would be ven
better is to take Tacrolimus or Pacrolimus orally but the derms probably
won’t prescribe it that way unless you are dying of seb derm.
Am I crazy or does this make sense.
