hi, I’m new. Can you read my story
I will try to keep this as brief as possible. I have seen so many
derms and received no definitive answers. So much for derms,eh? It is
possible that I have rosacea, but I don’t have redness or blushing or
pimples but I do have flaky skin. It seems to me that the more I
moisturize, the flakier it gets. is it possible that if a mild case
of seb is untreated, then it can spread to the entire face. My nose,
especially the nose is growing its own flakes. Ihave peeled so much
off my nose that it just can’t be dried up dead skin cells. I have
been peeling ofr week.Last might I gave my nose and chin a good
slathering of a heavy duty cream, and I swear that this morning , my
nose and chin are worse than ever. Try putting foundation on that
mess. I will be seeing another derm, soon I hope but, I am not
hopeful that he/she will be much help. Can anyonehelp me decide
whatis going on with my face and how I can help it be back to as near
normal as possible. I know that I have not given you much to go on ,
but I don’t want to go on and on with a highly emotional account of
everything. Perhaps a few directed questions and I could provide
detailed answers. Thansk so mcuh for your help. I look forward to
reading baout your success and failures with whatever you have tried.
Take care

Hi,
[im a sufferer of rosecea and seb derm, not a doctor].
If you don’t have reddness then its unlikely that you
have rosecea.
It sounds like you may have seb derm, for which there
are all sorts of potions, lotions and the like which a
doctor can prescribe. I have had this condition for 20
years, so here are some suggestions from my
experience:
1. If you are prescribed steriod creams, try to avoid
them. The do give instant relief, but in the vast
majority of cases i read about (including myself) they
make it WORSE over time.
2. You might get lucky with one of the anti fungal
creams prescribed by a doctor. I tried about 20 or 30,
none really worked for me !.
3. Shampoos (lathered and used on the face) seems to
have good results for some people, including myself.
The following are the most common for SD (these are UK
names):
a) Neutroena T Gel (a tar based product specifically
for SD).
b) Head and Shoulders (contains zinc pyrithione which
is a well known combatter of SD).
c) Selsun
d) Selenium
e) Polytar
In trying these shampoos do not go overboard and
assume that piling it on makes it better, often a
quick diluted shampoo left on for a few minutes then
rinsed off, once every few days, is better. Do not try
them all at once, try one to see if it suits, if not
wait a few days and try another. ALWAYS try a small
sample area of your skin first.
Don’t pile on moisturisers, it blocks the pores.
I have not heard of SD spreading as a result of
treatment, but that does not mean its not possible.
I hope this helps you, good luck.
Gavin
