Poll on age

Wednesday, April 30th, 2003

Read an interesting article today on seb derm–the link is provided below.

An interesting note in this article said that seb derm peaks at age 40
although it is still present in older people but not as severe–as I am now
35 this may explain why my condition has been getting worse as i get older.

I’d like to ask everyone their age if you don’t mind–maybe this will offer
some hope that after 40 our symptoms will get less severe–never thought I
would be happy about getting to forty but maybe this stupid condition is
really a twentysomething/thirtysomething deal and then we get better on our
own?

Any thoughts?

SAL-3 soap - posts 283 & 284

Thursday, April 24th, 2003

This is the best soap I have ever used. My dermatologist recommended
it to me, and I use it regularly now.

It’s called SAL-3.

You’re right about the website, sometimes it takes a little time to
load. I just go to www.SulfurSoap.com and then I click in the left
corner.

Sulfur Soap

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2003

I’ve had really good results by using this sulfur soap, it has
reduced the flakes and oily skin dramatically but especially the
redness I used to have around the nose to almost "normal". It’s worth
a closer look for anyone who suffers from seb derm and/or acne,
besides, it’s real cheap!

Zap!! Zap!! Zap!!

is this normal

Sunday, April 20th, 2003

Linda,
That suff coming off of your face is combo of dead skin, dried up oil, and
any unabsorbed Nizoral–it is normal to shed like this with seb derm–if
your face can stand it, use a soft toothbrush and very lightly go over the
peeling areas to get all of the stuff off but don’t pick at any of the
stubborn spots–if your face starts getting redder, don’t do this because it
may look worse and take longer to heal–I only do this when I am really
flakey but not really red or sore and it seems to help. The only other
thing to do is wait until it all sloughs off by itself which will obviously
take longer–if your skin is drying up like this than the Nizoral is
probably working to some degree-stick with it for at least a week or two–

Rosacea/Seb Derm Dilemma

Thursday, April 17th, 2003

Over a year ago I was told by a dermatologist that I had rosacea. I
saw a different dermatologist this week and he disagreed with the
diagnosis of rosacea. He said that my problem is seborrheic
dermatitis. I told him that I do have symptoms of rosacea such as
broken blood vessels on the bridge of my nose and I flush
occasionally (mostly when under stress or after drinking alcohol).
He said it might be possible that 5% of my problem was rosacea
(don’t
know how he arrived at that conclusion), but the broken blood vessels
were caused by sun damage (even though I told him I stay out of the
sun). It really seemed that he thought I didn’t have rosacea at
all.

He prescribed Aclovate for my face. That’s a topical steriod,
and

Elidel Update

Wednesday, April 16th, 2003

I have been using Elidel since Monday of this week on my face for seb derm
and I do beleive that this is having a postive effect. I am 99% clear as of
today and I was about 70% clear on Monday–I think I was clearing on my own
after a real bad two week breakout in my eyebrows and on forehead so I was
not sure how much was just natural and how much was the Elidel.

However, this morning, after showering, I had a big red spot fleare in one
of my eyebrows that felt like it was going to really get bad and last for
days–I put the Elidel on imediately amd it burned for about 20-30 minutes
and the patch got really red and raw. About two hours later, the whole
thing disappeared and my skin felt and looked perfect–maybe it was just
natural or maybe it was the Elidel–I don’t want to hype the Elidel too much
becasue I have not put it through a real major test yet, but so far, it does
not appear to have downsides to using this stuff.

Oh, but I forgot the disclaimer: obviously everyone’s
skin is different, and others may react to different
things…
