DOING GOOD/THANK YOU
I just thought I would share how helpful you all have been. I have both
rosacea and seb derm. I have been able to keep one or the other under
control, but never both, till now. No miracles here, but I am back to that
sun kissed look instead of the rare tenderized steak look, my face is pretty
much flake free, and my swelling is way down. My nose looks normal! I have
been using the Body Shop’s tea tree glycerin soap ($5) in the evenings and
following it with Queen Helena’s Mint Julep Mask ($3) and then a very high
quality jojoba oil form bostonjojoba.com (31.71 w/s&h for 32 oz, I have used
it for a month on my face and nails and have used maybe an oz). My face has
settled down so beautifully. I am using no topicals at all. I am using
doxycycline once a day (my eye get too bad w/o it) as well as primrose oil
(15? for 30/1200 mg), borage seed oil (17.99 for 50/1000mg), non flushing b
complex (11.09 30/2 per day) and ACES(20.05 for 90/2 per day) and allegra,
although not necessarily for my face. I have been using Nizoral AD shampoo
for my hair, scrubbing very hard and leaving it on for several minutes
twice. I also have been trying to drink as much water as possible and at
least one glass of purple grape juice a day. I’m not sure what did it or if
I finally hit the right combination for my face, but I thank everyone here
for their suggestions and wonderful support.
I am still trying to get my eyes to settle down, I actually think my
sight is beginning to be affected, but I have an appointment next week and
have been using thera tears to try to stabilize them. Thanks again!!

becky, good for you ! but just one thing without trying to be negative.
if and lets not hope so you have a reoccurrence, what are you going to pu
it down to. whats stopped working? and how do you juggle all the therapies
youre puting on your face. it’s just that we all drink lots of water ,eat
low carb diets , avoid alcohol, put on jojoba, try protopic etc etc and in
the end were so confused whats the right things and wrong things for us to
try and a what to avoid. ive tried the diary thing, and noted what ive done
and eaten but one week what was good is not good the next. i hope all
goes well but for me the amount of things youre doing would just confuse
the sh*t ot of me when i get the awful reoocuurence or my skin susses out
the treatment . not being hard on you just curiuos and concerned for
you.how do others monior whAts works for them or when it stops working and
how do theyt recognise which one of the 5 to ten things we all do at once
has stoppped working.

Just a general note to the group before I address Becky. I’m a new sebderm member and I just started using H&S intensive about four days ago as a facial cleanser based on some of the posts here. It was significantly helping my sebderm but it also really irritating and drying my skin otherwise. I switched to Selsun Blue two days ago, using it as a shampoo and letting the suds run down onto my face. At this point, I would say that my face has improved by 80 percent! The difference is amazing. I still have a little flaking but the redness is almost gone. If I can control my stress, think this treatment may get through the winter. I also thank the group for their suggestions and support! steve
Becky,
Your name is familiar, I must know you from one of the rosacea groups? Glad to hear that your condition is improved. I believe that I am finally starting to identify the differences between my rosacea and my sebderm. I’m wondering what your eye symptoms are. It sounds as if these may be rosacea symptoms. I have ocular rosacea as well as subderm just below both eyes. I don’t know if you have Dr. Nase’s book but he has only reading I have ever found on ocular rosacea. He was definitive that eyelid scrubs and lubricating eye drops would improve ocular rosacea. I tried the eyelid scrubs and they made my sebderm significantly worse. I am using GenTeal lubricating gel at least twice a day and I have Refresh eye drops at my office that I try to do at least once or twice during the day. This has noticeably but not significantly reduced my eye redness and swelling of my lids. My watering (leaking) eyes have also been helped to some degree as well. For the seb derm under my eyes, the few days I’ve been letting the Selsun Blue suds come down on to my forehead and eyes has already helped. It’s also been a great challenge finding all the right things in the shower having to keep your eyes closed. If you feel your vision is being affected, sounds as if you need to see an eye doctor. Just wanted to let you know you’re not alone and look forward to hearing about anything you learn. Best wishes.

Hey David,
I totally understand. This is acctually much easier tham anything
perscribed by the dr. I only do the face thing at night only, wash, mask
and then put the oil on. I usually let the mask dry while I am checking my
email :-} As to it not working anymore, I’ll cross that bridge when I get
there. This is the first time in four years I have been happy with my
face!!
